ReplyDeleteStepping into the chamber, he lifts a hand to his face, covering his mouth and nose against the ash that drifts down through the air and billows up with each step. As Del-Kai examines the statues, the ranger instead turns his attention to the misty doorways that line the room, checking each for markings or runes that might lead to discerning their purpose.
As he walks, he steps carefully, doing his best to slide his feet instead of stepping boldly from one doorway to the next, probing the ash-covered floor for pressure plates or trip lines that might hide under the grey soot.
Tech:Perception +7, Nature +7, Arcana +0, Dungeoneering +7. Does the ash look strange or have an odd smell? Is it clearly wood ash or something else?

When you approach each archway, the silver mist coalesces into a silver, mirrored surface. You see yourself reflected differently according to which portal:
North Portal: You are a skeletal werewolf.
Northeast Portal: You are a skeletal faun.
Southeast Portal: You are a skeletal tiefling.
South Portal: You are a skeletal minotaur.
In addition, you find writing under the ash... It reads:
REMEMBER YOU ARE ASH,
AND TO ASH YOU SHALL RETURN.
THE DAMNED GUARD THE WAY,
MARKED WITH THE INFERNAL CROWN,
THEY WILL TEMPT YOU UNTO DAMNATION,
TO THE FIRES THAT BURN
RED, AND GRAY, AND BLACK.
REMEMBER YOU ARE ASH,
AND TO ASH YOU SHALL RETURN,
AND ASH WILL SHOW YOUR WAY.

Crusaders, if you retreat from this chamber, where will you go next? Back to the Shadow Sanctuary to attempt to open the southern door? Or to the Ghost Council to attempt to proceed past the southern lava-filled hallway?
