The Wyrm Prince’s body bursts intohellflames and is reduced to ash, leaving only the Soulstone within him unharmed.
You claim the Soulstone, and the souls of all has been saved from a gruesome fate!
You have won D&D (and it was
Crusaders, congratulations on your victory in the Vault of the Wyrm Prince! This is the second time I have run this, and you are the first to win. I did not think you would pull this out at the last second, but you did. I was prepped to say, "Sorry, you lose, too bad.." but I was so wrong.
I'm enjoying your victory immensely!
Special Thanks

I would like to thank @DrDavyJones for creating this fantastic adventure, and putting it out there for free! I've enjoyed this game both in table-top form and now in play-by-blog form.

If you have a few moments, I'd love to pick your brain about what you liked and disliked about the Vault of the Wyrm Prince run. This feedback is open to lurkers to post to as well, not just players.

What's next?
I felt a bit of DM burnout towards the end, and I worry that the game suffered. Addictions to Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad did not help that. And some personal stuff I won't get into... But, those sound like excuses. Really, a DM just have to keep things going regardless. It's the DM creed.
Therefore, I'd like to take a hiatus from Grind4e for the summer. I'm not even going to think about what I'm running next; I'll just let it flow to me and get fired up when the time is right. There are a lot of options, from Night at Seyvoth Manor, Pit of the Void Locust, Crown of Charon, Tower of the Ascendants, etc. I won't worry about it right now.
In the meantime, I may blog about table-top runs... such as the upcoming July run of Fane of the Heresiarch at the Milwaukee Meetup!
Thanks!

What did you like the most about the game? Love the artwork for each room, well done.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you like the least about the game? I think that we could have probably timed things better - burnout was felt all around.
What one thing would you change if you could? Shorten the posting time allowance for everyone.
What one thing can I change to make myself a better DM? I don't know of anything!
Thank you for your feedback! I was glad to have you in the game.
DeleteWOOOOOOOOO!
ReplyDeleteMy notes would pretty much be the same. Setting a shorter time limit for posting would certainly help with keeping posts up. Still have yet to be alive at the completion of one of these.
I seem to see a pattern of players wanting shorter post times. I will keep that in mind. Thanks for the feedback!
Delete* What did you like the most about the game?
ReplyDeleteWhat's not to like? The play format is solid. DM's responses are short, but evocative. The chosen adventure kicks ass!
* What did you like the least about the game?
It felt like we were wandering around with no clue as to where we should be going. I felt that we were lost in a labyrinth and couldn't tell if we were making progress to our goal or not. I should have kept a map.
The pacing kind of fell apart at the end, but life happens! There really isn't any blame to be assigned.
* What one thing would you change if you could?
Pretty much anything I can thing of comes down to my actions, not how the game was run.

You should stand up when you make you posts.. I think it will really help convey the energy and the sense of urgency the a Fourthcore game should have. ;)
I could have been doing more for an overmap to help keep the adventure focused. My touchstone for running grind4e is to have the look and feel of a old school adventure videogame (shadowgate, for example). Perhaps the next time I run, I'll have a tab specifically for the overmap.

Lerker... Who are you calling a lerker, Joe? lol :P
ReplyDeleteI know who you are... Enjoying lurkerdom? :)
DeleteYou only think you know, Mr. Smartie DM Man! BTW why do you insist on spelling lerker with a U ? It' positively British lol :D
ReplyDeleteWOO, finally have a chance to sit down and complete my questionnaire! Work has been hellish recently and we’re trying to also coordinate a cross-country move in August so I’ve been a bit tied up!
ReplyDeleteWhat did you like the most about the game?
As always I loved the great screens you make, Joe. They add an extra layer of life to the game and really make it pop. I also really enjoyed the game itself, we might not have explored everywhere but it was a seriously solid adventure if not quite what we’ve been used to.
What did you like the least about the game?
I think like everyone has said we all felt the effect of burnout, either from our own side of things or just perceived from the responses we were getting. This is your fourth game almost back to back, I’m really more surprised it didn’t happen sooner! But still you kept up with it and pushed us forward, so even that couldn’t stop you.
What one thing would you change if you could?
I would have been bolder in this game and kept up better on my end of things. I kind of pride myself on being as good of a player I can and I don’t think I brought my ‘A’ game this time around. Probably I was just surprised because my original character made it all the way through! That’s only ever happened once before.
What one thing can I change to make myself a better DM?
Don’t be afraid to kick us in the butt every now and again! Too often we sat idle, and as the driving force of this adventure we failed to pick up our feet and really dive into the story. This is the fourth game I’ve played with you and the first time I haven’t seen you get on to us to move our keisters! You’re an awesome DM, a great artist and wordsmith and you might very well be one of the best game-masters I’ve had the pleasure to play with. There’s not much to improve upon!
So really, thanks for a great game and take whatever time you need to build up your reserves my man. I’ve had one hell of a lot of fun participating in this and your other adventures and I look forward to playing with you again. Hell, maybe I’ll run one sometime soon and you can take a player spot! Thanks again, Joe.
Thank you very much, Paul, for the compliments! I always enjoy having you as a player in my games.
