Craning your neck to see what is out of view in the chamber ahead, you spy the following:
- The door directly ahead of you has a small metal slide insert that is already open A pair of demonic eyes watch you. You're not sure if it's real or carving.
- On the door to your right is a larger opening in which what looks like molten magma is suspended within.
- To your left, an open hallway of iron, the floor is a pool of some kind of acidic slime. Where the hallway leads, you're not sure without entering further into the chamber.
- Dead center of the chamber lies a closed iron treasure chest.

ReplyDeleteI may have been too harsh in my ruling above, so I offer you this. Get a post in by Monday night, and you will gain back your hit points lost above.
I admit I have been slow posting as well, and I too will reaffirm my dedication to a faster posting rate. I was pointed out in a private message, Hard to make moves and investigate when the GM doesn't respond expediently, and I cannot argue against that.
For those of you who have sent me the nightmare emails, thank you. Deadline for getting me this is SUNDAY night, if you haven't yet sent me one. On Monday, I will send you a reply regarding XP gained.
Thank you.
Is there anything you need from me, the DM, prior to posting? Please let me know.
ReplyDeleteHaargarth the no longer wise rushes into the chamber, eyes locked with the demons straight ahead. Just for kicks, he calls out "Ahoy, demon! He moves right to the center, slowing as he takes each step down closer to the chest. If he sees no obvious lock on it, he kicks it sternly. Then, assuming it doesn't fight back, Haargarth will bend down to pry it open...
ReplyDelete[OOC]
Joe, catching up with things, are there any tags I need to know about the darkwood owlbear spine morningstar with the blue sapphire floating in it? I have plenty of strength to holster my signature weapon, but I almost feel compelled to wield it right now...
The demon does not respond to Haargaarth's greeting, but you do see it move behind the slotted door. Clearly it is not a carving or statue.
ReplyDeleteWhen he reaches the iron treasure chest, he also gains a view of the hallway to his left. Beyond a short corridor, the floor of which is a pool of hissing greenish liquid, lies a niche. Within this niche is a floating inverted wooden pyramid basin holding sand. Floating above it is a ring the size of a human head. To the left and right are sandstone pillars carved with archaic letters. (See new picture above.)
The treasure chest is locked, with three number-combination dials. It is currently set to 667. Do you wish to open?
OOC: The wicked morningstar has the tags: close, forceful, messy, and gives you a +1 to attacks and +3 piercing damage. It also demands you to name it.
[Haargarth]
DeleteHrmm, not worth guessing a combination as yet. Hey Mel or Talon, what do you know of these archaic letters?
[OOC]
Then I shall call it the Cruorstix the clotbreaker!
OOC: Before I score the nightmare emails, I want to make sure... I only got entries from Aaron and Anthony, correct?
ReplyDeleteMental note for me for next time: Ask that the players tag the email with a specific subject line. Otherwise it all blends in with all the other million emails I get on a regular basis!
[Vulture]
ReplyDeleteLurking down the corridor, Vulture stays just outside of the light, with his dagger in hand, in anticipation of what might happen to the behemoth and his reckless behavior.
[Azul Khadon]
ReplyDeleteThe Eyes of the Demon go not unnoticed by the Mother Unwilling, the hairs on her neck raise as her senses peak in response to this..unnatural creature.
Honed animal senses drink in the details of the room: the acrid fumes of the slime, it burns our eyes. The breath of the demon, it stings the lungs. The churning magma, it sears our flesh.

If 3, also: What is about to happen? What here is useful or valuable to me?

Sorry, I was working on a room and work sort of built up really quickly. If you are a forgiving and generous DM, I can wrap it up tonight as well. If not, well then I blew it.
[Ooc]
DeleteAlso, I have really been enjoying this and it gladdens me greatly to hear that we will be gaining momentum once more!
Yes, I will still accept late entries for partial credit. (I sound like a teacher!)
DeleteMelliandre shakes off her stupor and narrows her eyes as the demon moves behind the slots in the door. She shivers and gives in to a mad urge to wave at it, letting out a soft, high-pitched giggle of fear. She'd thought she was ready for this, how wrong she was. It was all so overwhelming and the fear in her guts threatened to consume her before anything in this horrid place ever could.
ReplyDeleteShe swallows and pulls herself together, moving up to join Haargarth in peering at the letters, squinting at them to see if she can read them or at least recognize their source.

Sorry for derping so long, I got a bit lost for a while and my schedule's been screwed up completely, plus I've never used DW before and I'm having trouble getting it to click.
[Sorne]
ReplyDeleteFascinated by the demon eyes, Sorne poises a clawed finger just in front of one eyeball and pointed at it.
[Tech]
If the eyeball doesn't react to the threat of the finger, Sorne, will attempt to plunge it into the eye's, confirming if they are real or not.
[Azul]
ReplyDeleteAzul steps into the room attempts to learn more about this bizarre chamber. Looking up, she does spy a chute (5' wide) in the ceiling that leads to a trapdoor about 40 feet above. The underside of the trapdoor has the image of a trident upon it. (Roll is natural 2! You gain 1 XP! Current Tally = 4.)
[Meliandre]
Meliandre squints at the pillars that lie on the other side of the pool of acid. The letters actually look to be common, but it's difficult to make them out from this distance. (Roll of 4, you also gain 1 XP. Currently at 2.)
[Sorne]
When Sorne gets close to the demon's door, it reacts. It speaks, through the slot in the door with a gutteral voice, like gravel scraped across bones.
"Tell us, why are you here. What do you seek in the TOWER? If you answer correctly, I may let you pass."
Suddenly, and this seems to even surprise the demon, a loud wail emanates from somewhere above in the tower.
"Now you've done it," the demon says, "Goldeneye is awake." (A GRIM PORTENT HAS COME TO PASS!!! - THE AWAKENING OF THE MASTER.)
[Azul Khadon]
ReplyDeleteThe diminutive druid's eyebrow raise at the sight of the chute; grim portents indeed for one that finds oneself 'neath this deathtrap when it opens!
A grunt and a gesture, and she wards her comrades from the space beneath the chute.
A clap like thunder, and once more the Amulet flashes, and from the crumples of her clothing the Crescent Moon Banded Desert Gecko crawls from its folds, the setae on the soles of its feet finding purchase on the walls...

Using Shapeshifter: When you call upon the spirits to change your shape, roll+Wis (+2). ✴On a 10+ hold 3. ✴On a 7–9 hold 2. ✴On a miss hold 1 in addition to whatever the GM says.
OOC: I'm going to do something controversial. I'm going to TRUST YOU. Roll your own dice. Honor system rules and all that. We're all adults, right? Really, if we were at the table, I wouldn't be looking over your shoulder as you rolled.
ReplyDeleteIf suddenly everyone is rolling natural 12's all the time, we can revisit. Looking forward to the result, Azul!
[Ooc]
DeleteVery good! As one who runs my own PbP's time and again, I totally get the feeling. Now I am overcome with anxiety about my roll...

Delete[Haargarth]
ReplyDelete"Demon, we are here to purge the world of sin and corruption, and to bear our sins to the oblivion gate". Do you stand in our way or shall you assist us?"
The demon shows teeth the color of yellow bile as he speaks into the narrow door slot.
ReplyDelete"I sensed the power of the sins within you, and I may help you, perhaps. But why would you wish to give up such ability, such freedom, such pleasure?"
[Sorne]
Delete"This power is born of sin and its fruits are poison to us. We bear this power to the Oblivion Gate to banish it from our society."
The demon's eyes appear in the slot once again, eyes of a wolf-like creature. "A pity, that such power has to be destroyed. But yes, I will help you... for a price. What do you have to offer, mortals?"
DeleteOOC: Instead of hitting reply to this sub-chain, let's try to get it at the bottom. I don't want too many forks in the posting convo... might be easy to not see a post. Thanks!
Delete[Vulture]
ReplyDeleteA shiver shudders throughout Vulture's core from the bellowing he just heard. "Something very bad is going to happen!" he shouts as he swiftly steps out of the shadows, into the room.
Intently listening to the demon's words, Vulture takes a quick survey of the room to determine its safety.

Roll+DEX. 10+ hold 3, 7-9 hold 1.
Rolled a 10+2(DEX)=12
Questions:
Is there a trap here, and if so, what activates it?
What does the trap do when activated?
What else is hidden here?
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThe trap door above the treasure chest is indeed a trap, and it is activated by the pull chain next to the demon (behind the slotted door).
ReplyDeleteThe trap door would open up, flooding the chamber with boiling sweat and tears gathered from the almost one thousand tortured souls of the Courtyard of the Immortal Palace.
Yes indeed, you spot something else! To the wall on your left there is a small niche concealed by a magically locked secret door. There is a small keyhole there, and beneath the keyhole is the phrase in common, "Use a proper key."
Beneath this cryptic phrase are three pushable small stone buttons with labels.
1. Brass
2. Iron
3. Mithril
[Vulture]
ReplyDeleteHe kneels down, mind racing, and comes to the conclusion that Iron, of the three materials listed, is the only "pure" material to choose from.
Vulture spins his sparkling dagger around and, with the hilt of his dagger, he pushes the Iron button!
The moment Vulture presses the Iron button, he realizes he is incorrect...
ReplyDeleteInstantly, the stone floor about his feet becomes fluid, and he feels himself sink down to just below his waist. Before he can escape, it solidifies once again!
Tech: Straight up Defy Danger roll with no bonus (the classic Save Vs Death for a bad choice), and I rolled this one for a 4. You gain 1 XP (4 total), but your lower third is now trapped in stone.
OOC: Totally off topic, XP awards for the nightmare email are: (and this was a tough choice)
ReplyDeleteVulture = 4 XP (Total 8, ready to level up!)
Haargarth = 3 XP (Total 5)
Azul = 1 XP (late entry, but thank you... Total 5)
Carry on.
[Haargarth]
ReplyDeleteAddressing the demon, and ignoring the foolishness of his companions behind..."Now...what is your name, oh powerful being, I wouldn't want to insult you by lumping you in with the unintelligent hordes below..As for payment, perhaps a weapon of my own crafting, dear to my heart, or a magical trinket would be payment enough?"
[OOC]
Alright, gents, I know some of you kept items from our first test, let's bribe the demon...
[OOC]
ReplyDeleteWhat was the area of the floor that turned to liquid?
Don't worry, vulture, once we've settled up with this demon, we'll pull you out. Too bad you aren't the one who can shapeshift...
Delete*strokes chin*
Deleteindeed
Sounding like he's making it up on the spot, the demon says, "You can call me.... Corson. As for payment, I care not for baubles and trinkets. I want a promise. That when I ask for my due, later, you give it to me."
ReplyDeleteOOC: As for the location of the rock-to-mud (and back again), it was right beneath you. The floor it seems is some kind of petrified wood. Looks like wood, feels like stone.
[Sorne]
ReplyDelete"I dislike open-ended promises. What if I offer you a portion of my power instead?"
[OCC]
This is a gamble. If accepted, Sorne will attempt to trick the demon by giving up some of his druidic power rather than the sin-driven power it probably craves. If it works, I'm thinking that Sorne would lose a class feature.
The demon now known as Corson nods, "That is acceptable. But what do you expect of me in return?"
ReplyDeleteWhile waiting for the response, Corson laughs at Vulture's expense. "Pushing the Iron Button... I'm surprised you even got this far into the Tower! How the vultures aren't feasting on your entrails outside the outer walls right now is baffling."
ReplyDeleteHaargarth hates to be taunted. Sound the horn! So he goes over and pushes the brass button.
Delete[OOC]
I've got the same chance she had...50/50...
Dungeoneers! Lend me your ears, and your cruelty.
ReplyDeleteHaargarth's choice is INCORRECT. I have already rolled his Defy Danger (roll+nothing) and know what the outcome is. I'm not telling, yet.
But what I need from you is a GRUESOME DEATH. Tell me how Haargarth dies horribly, and the one I like the best gains 2 XP. By merely entering this morbid contest, you earn 1 XP. And yes, Haargarth, you can enter too.
So as to not make Haagarth wait too long (that would be cruel!), I will accept entries for the next 24 hours... deadline of 15:00 CST on 2/4/15.
The DM sits back and awaits the brutality.
By the way, you can post those entries right on the blog here. Avoid email this time.
DeleteTrue to the demon he carries, Bright cracks form along his muscular body, his skin starting to boil. The oiling bubbles on his skin burst in unison, miniature clones of the warrior falling to the ground. Mad from the pain, each clone tears at its face, pulling the skin from its skull, finally bursting into flame and ash.
DeleteA chime rings out, filing the room with a clear, crisp tone that get louder with time. Haargarth's form begins to vibrate as the sound crescendos, and blood begins to pour out of his orifices and bead from his pores. The chime only ends when the adventurer collapses, unsupported by his bones, which have liquefied along with his internal organs. Only Haargarth's loos skin prevents the resulting goo from splashing all over the room, though it seems to be doing a piss-poor job of preventing the rapidly expanding puddle that now oozes forth from it.
Delete[OOC]
DM's choice as to whether the mess really is an ooze that must be contended with.
[SORNE]
DeleteSorne addresses Corson, "I believe answers to three questions is customary."
As the button depresses, something pricks the finger, the sound of something hard bounces across the petrified wood of the floor.
DeleteThe warrior bends to see what has fallen, and finds a single bloody tooth, and before long, the taste in his mouth. In disbelief, he feels in his own mouth, confirming his fears.
He jolts at the electric pain shooting through his body as his finger finds the now exposed tender pulp and nerve, and nearly chokes on another tooth. Another breaks free, and another, with the jagged bases of his bloody and ragged mouth raking against each other as he grinds his now broken teeth in pain, tearing the soft flesh of his mouth asunder, choking on his own blood as it erupts from his mouth.
Pinching and clawing at his exposed nerves, stinging with each sucking gasp for air, in an attempt to end the torture; they rip free as a root pulled from the ground, ripping furrows from his gums and through his face as he flays the flesh from his skull, driven insane by the pain of his exposed, tender meat and cartilage.
The strips of flesh curl back, not unlike flower petals, with the broken and bleeding head screaming and spouting blood in the center, and everyone witnesses first hand the effects of the Demoniac Bloody Lotus.
After that post, I'm just gonna say he poops his pants and dies from embarrassment lol jk
DeleteThen we should call him Har-Shart.

[Azul Khadon]
ReplyDeleteThe Crescent Moon Banded Gecko scuttles along the cold stone walls of the chamber with the fumes of the acidic slime below her making her head swim. Just a bit further...
The Mother unwilling circles the alcove above the inverted wooden pyramid, eying the ring as she reflects upon the runes inscribed upon the pillars.
The death throes of Haargarth threaten loose her footing, and were she able to in her current form, she would weep for her companion...
[Tech]
Ok, so I rolled a 10+Wis for Shapeshifter for a total of 12. I now have 3 Hold to use as my animal abilities, Ill go ahead and spend 1 for crawling on the walls as a Gecko.
2 Hold left.
[Ooc]
Oh man, I am so stoked to see more of these death scenes! In the multiverse, they all come true!
[Ooc]
DeleteAlso, now that I am closer, might I be able to read the archaic letters? Are they archaic as in lost, or archaic as in how old English is different from modern?
Reaching down, Haargarth presses the brass labeled button. Once depressed, a plume of dark yellow gas engulfs his head.
ReplyDeleteFor a few moments, Haargarth seems almost frozen in the bending position, when he slowly rises.
Looking in a bit of a daze, he brings his dirt and grime covered hands up and begins to dig his eyeballs out of their sockets, and while still attached, puts them into his mouth and starts to devour them.
While chewing his eyes, popping them like a couple of grapes, his hands leave his face and make their way to the torso, where they begin tearing away the flesh and muscle to the point of ribs being exposed and entrails and blood spill out onto the floor.
Surprisingly still standing, his arms contort in a freakish manner as he reaches his, now blood covered hands, into his mouth, one on the lower jaw, one on the upper jaw, and slowly begins to lift the top of his head.
With skin ripping, muscles tearing, bones snapping, and blood spewing into the air, the top half of Haargarth's head leaves his body and, simultaneously, his skull and body hit the floor from a gruesome, self-inflicted death!
Haargarth experiences ALL the scenes of demise, and simultaneously NONE of them. Within his mind, he experiences each fate in turn. Time stops. The scenes feel like they last for days. Through strength of will, Haargarth denies DEATH. It will have no power over him this time.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone watching, it simply looks like Haargarth winces in pain for a moment and steps back. It's that quick.
Was it really all simply in Haargarth's mind?
The demon laughs once again, "Ah, schadenfreude is most delicious. The careless pick the quick paths to their demise. Want another go at it, dungeoneer? One last button, surely there is no more risk? The solution is obvious, but you are blind."
The devious smile that he flashes after stating this is most unsettling.
To Sorne, he answers, "Yes, three questions is the norm. I salute you on your knowledge of such things and I accept your offer. You need not ask all your questions now, but perhaps soon... I forsee death in your immediate future. Perhaps you'd like to waste one on the solution to this puzzle that has bested you TWICE."
OOC: Sorne, choose one of your druid powers to lose, and you may begin to ask your three questions. As Corson says, you may ask them at any time (assuming you can get back to this chamber to ask them.)
As for Haargarth, you rolled a 10 on your Defy Danger! You're safe, this time. Everyone who posted a demise earns 2 XP! I chose them all. I promise to get fresh Vitals out today at lunchtime, and will not play Darkest Dungeon until it's done.
Haargath bellows at Corson's mockery. Of course, you fool, I knew the answer all along! Haargarth presses both the Brass and Mithral buttons down simultaneously.
Delete[OOC]
Ain't no one gonna lay a figure on me!
So, here's what I am thinking the actual answer to the button puzzle is. Two buttons. Brass and Mithral (both are alloys, iron is not). You can all thank me later for the xp. ;)
OOC: Your luck continues to hold... natural 11 on your Defy Danger! You stave off death once again... your solution is again incorrect.
Delete[Sorne]
ReplyDeleteCorson spake, "You need not ask all your questions now, but perhaps soon... I forsee death in your immediate future. Perhaps you'd like to waste one on the solution to this puzzle that has bested you TWICE."
"Nonsense" the druid replies, "the sign clearly says to choose the proper key. We obviously need a key instead of pushing buttons. You are generous to allow us time to think on our questions. I shall let you know when we are ready to ask one of you."
[OOC]
Seriously, guys..
.. also, any suggestions on questions for the demon? Ask now or bank 'em for later!
Corson is pleased at Sorne, "Everyone that passes through gets enamored with the buttons. Or they throw lockpicks at the keyhole. THAT never goes well, and is often the best show. But I'm not worried, even those who land on the answer still have a good chance of screwing it all up anyway. Because, stupidity."
ReplyDelete"But back to you. First question? I'll answer to the best of my ability, but I'm no oracle."
(OOC: Someone asked about more detail on the writing on the pillars... give me a bit more time, more coming on that today.)
ReplyDeleteNew Vitals POSTED! You need 8 XP to hit second level.... Melliandre and Azul are extremely close. In this game, you may level up immediately when you have the XP to spend.
ReplyDeleteAzul enters the chamber with the pillars and the floating ring that's nearly the size of a small crown. (See close up picture in the addendum images.)
ReplyDeleteThe pillars look to be some kind of puzzle, with letters on them. Each pillar is hexagon-shaped has four rotating pieces, with six letters on each piece.
Left Pillar:
A M D Z S M
M N L U O E
I E C R V I
W W P U V L
Right Pillar:
Q M U H B K
J E H Y G V
F M U W C D
S X N P E J
The ring floats above a wooden inverted pyramid that holds sparkling sand within. Something moves under the surface of the sand ever so gently.

ReplyDeleteJust at a glance, I found a couple words:
Left: SOIL, SNIP, SLIP
Right: BEDS,
If anyone finds any other words, post them and we can have Azul move the letters from across the pool of slime
[OOC]
DeleteI found a few as well, but I suspect it will not be as simple as that.
[OOC]
DeleteIt probably isn't that simple, then again it might be, overthinking can be as bad as underthinking.
Hmm. Two lines of letters are well-lit in that view; the third isn't visible, trick of the light? Correct solution involves making a word down both on each side? Overthinking it? (Probably.) Come to think of it, we're assuming down. What if we need to go across and make an eight-letter word, or go up? Mind you I am derp as hell right now so you should probably ignore me. :P
Words from left: SLEW
Words from right: HEMS, HEMP, MEWS, MEDS.
It's also entirely possible there's a clue elsewhere that will help us or make it clear and we don't have the information we need to solve it yet.
[Vulture]
ReplyDeleteNow attached to the floor, the once agile assassin stays still. Making minor movements with his legs, he attempts to see if there is any space to wriggle out, but no luck.
With his legs encased up to his knees, Vulture slams his hands down and begins to press on the floor beneath him. Pushing to the point of near dislocation of his legs, he belts out a scream of anguish and dissatisfaction with himself and his current situation.
Breathing heavily, and sweat pouring from his skin, Vulture enters a fit of rage. A shrill shriek leaves his mouth where the scream is both higher pitch and lower pitch at the same time.
Vulture's skin begins to steam and the floor begins to melt and smolder around his legs, turning into a viscous matter. His legs begin to budge as he pulls himself out and lay on the floor in a heap of sweat.
[Tech]
Used demon power to cause the floor around me to rot and melt away
[Vulture]
ReplyDeleteThe stone of the floor crumbles under the power of the demon within you! Your legs are free once more, and you climb out of the small pit of sand you stand in.
Corson witnesses this, and in a shocked tone utters, "I know that demon, his name is Braalthrax the Betrayer!"
OOC: How is Vulture changed negatively and physically by this allowance of the demon to emerge? Also, you may not use this power again until you demonstrate giving into the temptation associated with Braalthrax.
[OOC]
DeleteI have a question about that. The desire is Sowing discontentment and restlessness, so is it my own discontentment or someone else's? The way i used it was when Vulture feels that he could have done something different to prevent something bad happening, so, in turn, feels dissatisfied with the current situation. That is really the only time I feel it necessary, ya know?
You can reply on here, or in an email if you want. Thanks
Think more evilly. You have an evil demon within you who wants to screw with people and make their lives miserable with discontent, paranoia and madness. Make sense?
DeleteAnd it's not just about actions, it's about RP too. Tabletop Iron Trident games don't have too much room for RP interactions, but play-by-blog affords more in that regard.
DeleteJust to make sure you see it, I posted a special main post describing some thoughts about the demon power/desire aspect.
DeleteA player pointed out that my picture of the pillars has the positioning reversed. The text above, repeated below for your convenience, is correct.

DeleteThat's great ya'll. More puzzles. It's time we took a different route, how many times do we want "Corson" laughing at our failed, uneducated attempts to solve these? I suggest we move on.
[OOC]
DeleteI heartily agree with you, I am not looking forward to more punishment.
[OOC]
DeleteI have to agree, I don't think we're getting anywhere with any of the puzzles in here at the moment. Best to move on somewhere fresh, I think.
If you are looking to move on, where will you go?
ReplyDelete[OOC]
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should ask ol' boy a few questions...
Sorry for my lack of posting. In Las Vegas for a wedding. Will be here til Friday, but I'll try to post something soon
[OOC]
ReplyDeleteSorry, Joe. I was just re-reading the thread and realised that you asked for Sorne to pay up.
I was going to give up Spirit Tongue, (really, I was!) but then....
[Sorne]
"A bargain well struck Corson! I give you your due."
A cruel smile twists Sorne's features as the shadow of his swallowed sin vomits forth to transform and possess the demon as it had the ogres outside!
[TECH]
Suck it Corson. I'm smarter than you.
I rolled 5 + 5 + ? = 10+
Sorne doesn't have a plan here apart from dominating the demon. Having seen through the trap, Sorne believes Corson to be inferior to himself. That means he's weak and that's what woke the Werewolf within.
He believes that inflicting this transformation upon Corson meets the terms of the deal as it empowers him, but of course, the transformation is only temporary... or is it?
As for the puzzle. I hadn't gotten a good read on it yet. I'll play with it in my spare time. Assuming I didn't just get us killed, I'm all for exploring.
Sparked by curiosity, Haargarth goes looking into the fireplace, something that has been ignored so far (or he wasn't paying attention...very possible). Logs on the fire? lots of burning ash? There is fire and iron everywhere, and yet we're clearly missing something.
ReplyDelete[OOC]
If we can't figure anything else out, I am totally pushing my luck and that last button....
[Sorne]
ReplyDeleteCorson immediately begins to transform into an even more beastial version of himself! Losing control, Corson opens the door to enter the chamber you are in. Getting a good look at him now, he is a four-armed scaly draconic demon, with armor made of many ribcages turned to steel. His hands hold no weapons; his claws are as long as daggers!
Behind him, you see through the open door a pull-chain in the ceiling, and a spiral staircase leading upward and out of sight.
[Haargarth]
Meanwhile, in the other chamber, Haargarth locates a secret door in the back of the fireplace! If he can get past the flame, pushing against the fake stone wall at the back of the fireplace should open a way. It's then that he hears Corson's demonic screams from Sorne's attack.
OOC: You can deal with Corson without die rolls here. If you wish to slay him, just say so. I'm not playing a hard move here, just playing up the story.
Delete[OOC]
Get past the flame? How big/roaring is this fireplace? What's burning in it...logs, coals, ...halflings?
[Lurker]
DeleteOh come on, everyone knows that halflings are too moist to burn well, they spit and sizzle. For a good solid burn you gotta go with elves. They're dry and those birdy little bones hold in the heat pretty well.
[Sorne]
DeleteAs the mantle of Carcharoth transforms both Corson and Sorne, the druid feels and endless, ravenous hunger overwhelm him. His wolfish jaws snap forward and rip out the demon's throat. Sorne gorges on the demons flesh, blood and spirit, until he has consumed the essence of whatever sin Corson possessed. After which the elf reverts to his usual bird-like form and staggers to his knees.
[OOC]
Even Sorne's ability to consume sin is perverted by the presence of the demon within him.
You know, you could have just ASKED him what was behind his door...
Delete*buuuurrp*
DeleteNext post update coming tomorrow!
ReplyDelete[Sorne]
ReplyDeleteSorne has a choice. Choose 1.
- Regain full HP
- Learn a fact about the upcoming chamber from Corson's demon soul.
[Haargarth]
As for the fireplace, it does seem to be a bit supernaturally heated. The logs are demon femur bones and burn with a great intensity! You might be able to get through quickly enough... how you describe your attempt will determine the Defy Danger roll.
[Sorne]
DeleteSorne's eyes widen in realization of what is to come.
[OOC]
DeleteHrmm....demon corpse, fire we need to get past....who's with me in throwing Corson's corpse on the fire to help dampen it?
I like it. It's very green. Recycling. I'm for it.

Second, if the fuel is demon bones, I expect that would not have worked out the way you wanted. Better to take a tool and rake the bones and coals out. Distribute the fuel and the fire *should* dissipate.
[OOC]
DeletePfft, like watching the consequences of bad decisions isn't half the fun of this sort of thing. Also aww I wanted to make demon jerky.
So, what do we have to try to get the fire out? Or shall we try the room Corson was in?

ReplyDeleteI'm going to examine the magma door. Is it producing any heat?
The magma door is actually NOT producing heat. The heat of this room must be from the previous chamber's fireplace. As you get close, you sense the magma is an illusion.
ReplyDelete[Vulture]
ReplyDeleteSensing that the magma is not what it seems, Vulture grabs one of the torches from the wall and sticks half of it into the molten illusion to see what, if anything, happens.
I decided to post a new post. See main page. You do NOT have to explore it... if you wish to go elsewhere, let me know.
ReplyDeleteAlso, curious... has anyone seen my post "Contemplations from the Tower"? Just wondering. Check the main page.
