Joryn's demon, Ryth, grabs the unconscious cavalier and pulls him out of the threat area of the Dread Marilith Statues. He stands next to Tharl, and growls in warning before dropping Joryn on the floor, unceremoniously. It's clearly evident that this demon has an axe to grind with the Vryloka Cavalier.
To Tharl, Ryth smells like the worst combo of burning tar and horse entrails.
But that doesn't phase the wizard, Ambrose, who examines and identifies the following treasures:

As the wizard relays his findings to his companions, an emerald ray lances out from the gem in the southern most alcove of the final vestibule! It hits Ambrose square in the chest, and the wizard vanishes with a POP! to suddenly appear standing in the very alcove that attacked him.
Before Ambrose can escape his new location, the alcove fills completely with a green crystal substance. The wizard is truly immobilized!

OOC: The treasures are still on the floor of the final vestibule, and all of your can consider the above info as character knowledge. There are still two alcoves not yet filled, and potentially two more attacks... but you are out of sight of them. What to do?
At this point, we are out of combat. You may act at will!
- 2,200 silver pieces (he counted it fast like Rainman!)
- Non-magical bloodstone carving of a sixarmed woman nursing three tiefling infant
- Wand of Fiery Bolt
- +2 Corset of the Marilith
- And a small iron pentagram the size of a coin, mixed in with the silver pieces - the Pentagram of Power!

OOC: Is Ambrose dead... or merely stuck? Hmm....
ReplyDeleteOOC: Can Joryn use some healing surges because he is very injured?
ReplyDeleteOOC: Joryn, go for it. You're conscious.
ReplyDeleteTharl directs healing spirits to help Joryn recover to consciousness so he can use his own healing. Turning to the trapped ambrose, Tharl pulls his morning star and attemo break through the crystal to release Ambrose.
ReplyDeleteOOC: I hate this room Sersa, lol.
Tharl springs into action, assailing the crystal wall Ambrose is trapped in, with his morning star. The crystal is impenetrably hard, it's doesn't even crack.
ReplyDeleteJoryn sees the eastern alcove fire an emerald ray, hitting Tharl in the shoulder. Tharl's fate is now joined with Ambrose, as the healer is teleported to the eastern alcove and encased in a solid cube of green crystal!
Ryth turns to Joryn (both standing at the entrance of the final vestibule). Ryth's voice is deep and bassy as he says, "Well... 'boss'... two of us and just one crystal left. Assuming it will attack the moment one of us enters the chamber, leaving the other to get the treasure?"
He then does something odd, showing Joryn his right forearm. The skin is marked, scarred with tallies. By the count, 23.
"I never told you this, but all this time I've been keeping track of the reasons I'm going to kill you later. Just so you know."
Ryth claws a 24th tally into his arm, with his own claw. "That's for the skeleton ring trap."
Assuming when Ambrose picked up the wand he didn't let go of it, he angrily evaluates his situation and thinks of arcane ways to escape his immobile imprisonment. Or maybe his remaining group will save his butt once again ...
ReplyDeleteOOC:
Arcane check to figure a way out, dispell his magical imprisonment, or blast it with the wand?
Joryn rises to his feet and collects himself, "You know I'd never do anything to intentionally cause you harm," his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Honestly though, thanks. I owe you another one. Now let's get some of this treasure. Did we grab that dagger? You can probably sense it from here. Want to fly back and grab it?"
ReplyDeleteJoryn exerts his will into his bond with Ruth, encouraging him back to grab the Fiend-cursed dagger and pauses to wait for his return. He draws his sword and turns to his crystalline allies. "Now am I really the only one left"
Tech:
Arcana, religion check on Crystal.
Ryth obeys reluctantly, heading back into the gauntlet of traps to retrieve the fiend-cursed dagger lying on the floor all the way back in the first vestibule.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Joryn doesn't know much about the magicality of the crystals, and they don't seem to have much religious significance, as far as he can tell.
Ryth returns, handing over the dagger to Joryn, rudely pointing the business end at him in the process. (But not stabbing.)
Ryth then offers, "Make a deal with you. I want that pentagram. If I can get my hands on it, I get to keep it. I'll attempt to grab what I can and get out. Fair?"
"Deal. You get what you can out of that mess and then we try and get out of here. Go for it!"
ReplyDeleteRyth looks to the west, at the alcove that has not yet fired it's teleport beam. The demon's red muscles tense and he prepares, then he leaps into the chamber with great speed! He lands in the midst the treasure, attempting to swipe up a handful in his great clawed arms.
ReplyDeleteBut he too his hit by the emerald beam, the results the same as Ambrose and Tharl. Ryth manages to look at Joryn saying, "Son of a...." before he too is encased in solid gemstone.
Then suddenly, the sunken in floor between the alcoves rises to become flush. A voice calls down from the ceiling; an androgynous voice.
"The first will be exiled, the second must pay the price, but the third will open the way. Choose."
At that moment, all traps cease. Joryn is bathed in deep quiet, as the disembodied voice awaits his decision.
"Damn it!" Joryn screams. "Am I going to be the only one to escape this blasted chamber!?!?"
ReplyDeleteSirens steps forward and begins gathering the various treasures in the room. "No sense just leaving this here."
After gathering the treasure and armor, Joryn strides forward and sighs deeply. "You are going to hate me so much Ryth." Then he reaches forward and rests his hand on Ryth's gem."I choose Ryth first." He walks to Tharl's gem second and rests his hand there. "The healer is strong and I know he would give of himself." Then he goes to Ambrose and says, "And finally you must be the key."
Joryn steps back and braces himself for whatver comes next.
OOC: by sirens I meant Joryn. Stupid auto correct. Sorry I'm on my phone on vacation.
ReplyDeleteOOC:
ReplyDeleteResult of Ambrose's arcane check to figure a way out, dispell his magical imprisonment, or blast it with the wand?
OOC: Unfortunately, Ambrose is as stuck as Han Solo in Carbonite. More to come soon!
ReplyDeleteOOC: Oh darn it! Thought he stlll had his thoughts. Can he wet his pants now?
ReplyDeleteIf Ryth could give an expression of anger and pain, he would. But he can't. He can simply be destroyed and sent back to Hell; a fate that has befallen him under Joryn's control now for the 25th time. Ryth and the crystal block he is embedded in turn to arcane dust.
ReplyDeleteTharl's fate is different. He is teleported away, but to where? The green block he was encased in is still there, with a hollow mold-shape of where Tharl once was.
As for Ambrose, his crystal melts around him. But before the wizard can react from being freed, a shimmering silver portal appears behind him and sucks him into it!
OOC: Well done not leaving the treasures behind. And this ends Chamber 5 (assuming Joryn enters the silver portal?). Tomorrow will see a post for point awards and XP. Hey, 50% survival rate... could be worse! I will also entertain new dungeoneers to replace those slain. I have a few already, and will pick from candidates by Friday (need 3 dungeoneers to get back to 6).
Chamber 6 will then start a week from today!
