Crucible of the Gods: The Blood Throne

Fearing the consequences of being too close to a Sphere of Annihilation, Nevdor fey steps to bypass it. With the Wand of Petrifaction already in hand, he points it at the Ruach and wills it into action. A stream of energy blasts outward from the wand to hit her, and for a moment you think it's not going to be enough!

Nevdor tries again, a second blast undulating outward to bash the avatar of Lyth. This time she cannot resist... a petrified Ruach now stands before you, her outstretched hand attempting to throw a boomerang at Nevdor's head.
Tech: Burn 2 action points and the wand disintegrates to worthless dust. The Ruach is petrified until the end of your next turn. The area around her is still difficult terrain.

Nevdor looks to his left and beholds a bloody throne against the north wall, flanked by iron braziers. A skull has been impaled on each arm of the great stone seat. He sees the glint of something golden lying on the seat, a rod maybe?

He doesn't have much time to contemplate, as he feels himself being dragged towards the Sphere of Annihilation! To make matters worse, three skeletons (from the west pit) swarm around him and attempt to push him towards that very black orb of death.
Tech: Sphere of Annihilation gravity attack, dragging Nevdor two squares closer. The three skeletons attempt bull rushes on Nevdor as well, one succeeds pushing him yet another square closer.

In the south, arrows rain down upon Selvantis, Ashton, and Tak-tha.
Tech: Two hits on Selvantis. Selvantis is now at 17 hp. One hit on Tak-tha, who is now at 13 hp.

Two of the three skeletons that emerge from the eastern pit swarm Arden who attempts with futility to knock them down as they emerge. The skeletons are fast, getting around Arden with ease. Each one grabs one of Arden's arms and throws him into the pit!
Tech: Two bull rushes against Arden. Both hit, and Arden failed his save to avoid the fall. Arden takes 8 falling damage and 5 necrotic damage, leaving him bloodied at 12 hp and prone in the pit.

The single skeleton north of Tak-tha also manages to strong-arm the Thri-Kreen into the pit!
Tech: Hit! Tak-tha bull rushed into pit (failed save vs fall). Tak-tha takes 4 necrotic, but lands on his feet. Currently bloodied at 9 hp.

OOC: In case you're wondering, the Decrepit Skeletons get to perform an extra shift as a part of their attacks, which is why they're able to maneuver around you for optimum flanking before they strike. For Arden and Tak-tha, the DC to climb the out of the pit is Athletics 15. Good job on stoning the Ruach, but can you take advantage of it? Good Luck! -MilwaukeeJoe

  1. OOC: Tak-tha activated his THP prior to the damage above. Vitals tab updated to show proper 16 hp and 7 thp.

Seeing his brethren fall into the pit of bones, the ranger springs into action. He dashes forward across the cracked sandstone, slowing only momentarily to swing in an upward arc at the skeleton near the edge of the pit before following through and leaping from the edge himself to land and roll on the opposite side, using his momentum to smash into the second skeleton and toss him into the pit as well.

He cries out to Tak-Tha and Arden as he lands, extending his hand into the pit.

Tech: run to K-12, Hit and Run on the skeleton at K-13 +7 vs Ac 1d8+6, continue to jump to L-11 Acrobatics +3 and try to strong-arm the skeleton into the pit Strength +4 then drop to kneeling and assist Tak-Tha and Arden in climbing out.

Hearing the voice of his fellow Ranger, Tak-tha quickly moves through the bones, reaching up for the outstretched hand to climb out of this pit.

    Tech
Athletics +2 and Selvantis' assistance to climb out to an open square on the north end of the pit.

  4. [Selvantis]
Selvantis ignores the slashes from the nearby skeletons, and his own sword destroys one in the process. Leaping over the pit, he parries the blade of the skeleton there and reaches down to catch Tak-tha's (what do Thri-Kreen have.. hands? pincers?) and pulls him up out of the pit!

Tech: 8 damage to Selvantis from OAs. Selvantis is bloodied at 9 hp. OA from skeleton there missed. I'm going to grant Selvantis a free 5-foot shift to the north as he pulls Tak-tha (who rolled 18) to safety. Tak-tha had to burn a move action to get out of the pit though, and has a standard/minor he can still spend this round.

    ReplyDelete
  5. OOC: At this point, Tak-tha has an unused minor/standard, Selvantis has used up all his actions, and the rest of you have full actions to take. Make 'em count!

  6. Selvantis and Tak-tha have entered the aura of slime this round, and take 2 acid damage each. Selvantis is at 7 hp. Tak-tha is at 16 hp/5 thp.

  7. [Tak-tha]
Tak-tha scrambles out of the pit thanks to Selvantis' help, his claws scraping against the acidic slime. He takes a moment at the top to catch his breath and notice the beating the ranger took to free him. "Here, friend, you need this more than me." He takes out his final potion and opens it, letting Selvantis drink its healing magic. He ducks (hopefully) under the blade of the skeleton next to them as he moves against the slime, trying to set himself into a good position to strike the Ruach next turn.

    Tech
Minor: Use Potion of Healing on Selvantis - he loses a healing surge and gains 10 HP

    Standard: Move to K7

If possible, will use Lyth's Boast to try and get an action point for next round

  8. [Tak-tha]
Selvantis benefits from the Potion of Healing!
Tech: Selvantis up to 17 hp, and 2 surges remaining.

  9. [Ashton]
A look of glee appears on Ashton's face as he notices the petrified Ruach. But there are still too many foes in the immediate vicinity - he leaps across the pit, a little shakily, and while devoutly uttering "Kishar, this death of Lyth's minion is dedicated to you," he spins his blade through the two nearest skeletons!

    OOC: Eep!
Move: down to N-17, then up and jump to K-14 (to get that running start)
    Standard: Sword of Sigils attack
    •   Close burst 1
    •   +7 vs AC (there's lots more, but doesn't matter with minions)
Free: Kishar's boast on the skel that
    doesn't have cover.
AP: (only if the boast goes off) move to L-11, with running start first

  10. [Ashton]
Ashton leaps into the fray! A lesser warrior would balk at allowing one to become flanked in such a way, but Ashton takes advantage of the situation. Destroying the skeleton in front on him with his longsword, he feels the blessing of Kishar fall upon him, granting him extra speed. He leaves to join Selvantis on the north edge of the pit!

Tech: No problems with either of the two jumps. Good rolls. You hit the skeleton you boasted against, a very good move! You missed the one that's by Hanar, then used your AP to head north. Standing in the Lyth aura, you take 2 points of acid damage. You are now at 21 hp.

  11. OOC: Crusaders, you have until Sunday night to get posts in. Come Monday morning, the Ruach depetrifies!

    1. OOC: Correction, you have until MONDAY night to get posts in. I have to take Easter into account. Ruach attacks on Tuesday morning.

  12. Caught between annihilation and a hard place, Nevdor attacks with a flurry of sword thrusts, chopping into the skeletons ahead. Only the favor of the gods can save him from utter destruction, and he calls out to Kishar "Allow me to live another day Kishar, this battle is not over!". As they fall, he turns, flips and dances by them, trying to distance himself from the sphere at his back.

    OOC:
Standard action, Acrobat's blade trick. Close Burst 1, +7 vs AC against both skeletons with a boast to kishar (need to hit both right?, we're gonna need that AP!). I get to shift one square for each target I hit. So I guess I will wait on my move action and minor depending on that outcome.
I take it this round we are boned from trying to use the amulet? Trying to regain my AP so we can tag-team the Ruach if still up next round. Should I move straight towards it or go for the blood throne team?

    ReplyDelete
  13. OOC: I say hit the throne, check out what's laying on the seat of it. Could be another weapon against the Ruach.

  14. Nevdor - My apologies, I missed something in the main post. Having been "hit" by the Sphere of Annihilation's gravity.. you are also currently SLOWED.

That won't invalidate your post above though, I'll get on it this morning.

  15. [Nevdor]
Nevdor's short sword and dagger prowess is unmatched. The skeletons don't have a chance! Nevdor doesn't break stride once, passing by both and leaving them but piles of bones on the ground.

Tech: Two solid hits! Kishar's boast pays off, action point gained! Your slowed condition will wear off at the end of this round.

    ReplyDelete
  16. As this slowed condition was just now pointed out, I would like to amend my post to have Tak-tha end up at J7 instead of K7, which should keep me out of reach of what looks like a burst 5 from the Spheres

    ReplyDelete
  17. [Hanar]
Hanar grumbles something about stupid skeletons before quickly stepping to the west to attack one of the skeletons in his way.

    Tech:
Shift to M15. Attacking skeleton at L15.
    Str + 6 vs AC - 1d10 + 5 (not bothering listing the on-hit abilities, seeing as how it's a minion).

    ReplyDelete
  18. [Hanar]
Hanar decimates the skeleton next to him.

    Tech: One hit, one kill!

    ReplyDelete
  19. OOC: to finish up my actions, I will use my free shifts from killing the minions to shift up to G7, then use a move action to walk to G5. No action point this round. Close enough to see the golden object on the throne?

    ReplyDelete
  20. [Nevdor]
Nevdor sees that the golden object on the seat of the blood throne is an unlit golden torch.

    ReplyDelete
  21. OOC: THAT could be useful. Remember Kotaresh's trial? Go grab that torch!

    ReplyDelete
  22. [Arden]

So Arden is starting prone so a move action to stand up.

if Arden doesn't hear Tak-tha call out to him by the end of the round he will use Beguiling Strands +6 vs Will on the skeletons at M11, O12, O13, O14.

If Arden does hear some shouted instructions from Tak-tha he will use Hypnotism +6 vs Will on the Ruach to try and slide her to L7 and let Tak-tha use the Talisman. Unless the pit is deep enough that Arden can't see out in which case the skeletons as above.

    ReplyDelete
  23. [Arden]
Arden's beguiling strands spell works wonders against the skeletons. They fall into the pit, becoming one with the pile of bones once again.

Tech: Three hits, one miss. Three skeletons destroyed. At this point I will now work up the Ruach's turn.
