Crucible of the Gods: Fates of the Fallen

OOC: Ashton's Firedeath interrupt-turned-reaction was interesting to adjudicate. I first checked to see if the pre-reduction damage would kill you. If it did, you were dead. If you were still living, then the Firedeath kicked in and you instead took damage from the reduced amount instead.

During her whirlwind attack, you lose sight of one another. You hear the boast cries to Lyth mingle with the sounds of death and disembowelment. The image of her beautiful, soul-chilling face will forever be etched in your mind... even into the afterlife.

[Selvantis/Arden/Tak-tha]
Selvantis, Arden, and Tak-tha are quickly overcome, and are no more for this world. The spaces where they stood now contain the bloody stumps of their corpses. As for the fates of their souls, well, you know what happens.
Tech: Selvantis and Tak-tha took 32 points of damage each, killing them. As for Arden, he took a critical hit to the face for 40 points of damage. He is quite dead at -43 hp!

[Ashton]
Ashton senses himself falling, the overload of unconsciousness threatening to take him over. But one last burst of effort, strength and truth surge through him, and his Firedeath power prevents his demise!
Tech: Ashton takes 25 points of damage and 2 more for starting in the acid aura. He is at 1 hp. You saved against being pushed into the bone pit (which would have also killed you!), but you are Prone.

[Hanar Hammerforge]
Your boasts to Lyth pays off immensely. You survive the attacks and are emboldened to fight on!
Tech: You were hit but not killed, and the Firedeath allowed you to live. You are at 2 hp, gain an action point and have 48 temp hp (after 2 acid dmg). You are Prone.

[Nevdor]
Nevdor witnesses the onslaught ending as quickly as it began, and once again you find yourself with but ONE ruach and many skeletons. In one direction is the Golden Torch, and in the other... the Talisman of Glory.

Finally, the Ruach teleports away, to appear just south of Hanar Hammerforge. She has a relaxed look on her face now; she will enjoy killing you one by one in a leisurely fashion.

OOC: It's down to three of you... it looks grim, but I've seen crusaders pull out of worse situations than this. Do you have what it takes? Good Luck! -MilwaukeeJoe

  1. OOC: I will give you until Noon CST Friday (4/13) to post. That's two working days, should be enough to plan and post, yes?

  2. [Ashton]
Coughing out a cloud of pumice dust, the beaten and tired genasi pulls the pack off of Selvantis' destroyed frame. Briefly rummaging through the contents, Ashton finds the container he's looking for and guzzles it greedily. "Sweet, sweet, life-giving ash!"

Glancing across the pit at the army of skeletons, then back at his defeated friends, Ashton raises the other item in the pack out for Nevdor.

OOC: Wow, this is crazy, epic, and even if we go down in glorious flames, satisfying!

    Minor: retrieve adjacent items
    Minor: quaff the Urn
    Move: stand
Saving the AP for after Nevdor rushes by, grabbing the Krater.

Swallowing the ashes from the Urn, Aston's wounds vanish... like magic! Ashton rises.

Tech: Congrats, full hit points AND the Krater of Might. You are no longer prone.

  4. After the whirlwind of death, Nevdor sees the talisman fall to the ground, the key to saving himself, his compatriots, and the world. He breaks into a full run, knowing the Ruach must be defeated now! He rolls, grabs the Talisman from the ground and pops up still running towards the pit and his fate. He takes the Krater from Ashton just before his feet leave the ground, from then on its a blur. Nevdor leaps, Talisman held high.

    OOC:
Move action: RUN! 8 squares diagonally to pick up the talisman of glory and get to Ashton (7 total squares). Jump to L15, +7 Athletics vs DC 15 to jump the 3sq. End my movement in L15, next to the Ruach.

I pass by the decrepit skeleton in K7, I am assuming if he hits me it won't stop my movement, so I will take it.

Minor action: Grab the Talisman of Glory from J7.
Minor action: Grab the krater from Ashton (unless b/c of his actions its a freebie).
Standard Action: After I jump the pit, activate the Talisman of Glory to deal 100 damage to the Ruach. And be next to Hanar with the talisman and krater

If I need to spend the two minors, then use my AP from kishar's boast to activate the Talisman! If not, save it for next turn if I am still alive!

Also, I have visions of every action movie I think I have ever watched right now...Heroic leap, hitting the big baddie with a surprise attack, yippie kay yay motherfucker!

You actually slam the Talisman of Glory into the ruach's face, and it sears an imprint onto her cheek! She writhes in pain!

Suddenly, you see her form start to blur and shift, her body becoming unstable. Every couple of seconds, she appears randomly as Lyth, then as Kishar (black-haired human woman in bloodstained plate mail), then as Kotaresh (hooded shadow wearing an upside-down mask) or as Asar-Segt (six-armed ghoul shrouded by a cloud of ash).

The entire labyrinth shakes in response to Nevdor's bold action! The section of maze just a mere few feet away from you to the south caves in, massive blocks of obsidian falling upon... not you... but the ruach! A look of minor panic as she teleports away. You hear the sounds of her return teleport to the north, and you know in your heart of hearts that she has instinctively teleported back to her blood throne.

Tech: A lot going on here.
    1. No problem with the jump. The skeleton's OA missed Nevdor, but he does take 2 dmg for entering the acid-slime aura. Nevdor is now at 24 hp.

    2. The Talisman of Glory inflicted 100 damage to the ruach! The ruach is bloodied.

    3. The southern five rows of map have caved in, and the map has been adjusted to reflect this. Be glad you weren't standing there. The ruach teleported back to the throne as a free action. You are cut off from the Obelisk of Power and the Portal that led you here.

    4. Finally, I'm going to rule that you did not have to spend 2 minors to grab the items. Therefore, you got it done without spending your action point. Which means you could try to do something right now with that action point, if you wish.

Given all the activity going on, I will extend your time to post from Noon today to the end of Sunday. Clearly you're attempting your best and I want you to shine.

  6. OOC: bloodied? Great sign! Hanar, recharge the talisman and knock her out! I will hold off on my AP, might need it to clear these skeletons or something after she goes down. Assuming the killing blow doesn't Backfire on us...which is why Ashton being at full hp and on the other side of the pit is a good thing! Only one skeleton between him and the throne!

And I agree with Casey. Gambling Alot on a jump check!? Am I crazy? THIS IS HOW A GAME SHOULD END! EPIC!

  7. [Hanar]
Hanar grumbles from his place on the ground. Dang Rauch had gotten away! All this teleporting around was making him feel quite grumpy. He pulls himself to his feet. Grabbing the Krater and the talisman from Nevdor, Hanar downs the Krater, sending the energy from the Krater into the talisman to recharge it.

    OOC:
    Move action: stand.

Minor action: drink from the Krater to recharge the talisman.

More to come! Hanar still has a standard and an AP to burn.

  8. [Hanar]
Hanar recharges the talisman. Now, can you get adjacent to her and use it, before she smites you?

  9. "I'm coming for you!" Hanar says, carefully jumping down into the pit and moving across. He mutters a number of derogatory terms for women in dwarven as he picks his way through the bones.

"Everyone, move away from the skeletons." He says, easily climbing out of the pit.

"Out of the way." Hanar says simply, twirling his snake staff and directing the attack at the skeleton on the other side.

OOC: Movement to M11, Athletics +11

AP for standard - activate the snake staff on the skeleton in N11. Does 26 points of poison damage to the skeleton. Hanar regains all lost hp.

  10. [Hanar]
Hanar manages to drop down into the pit, cross over and climb back out. Ashton distracts the skeleton, keeping it from slicing Hanar to bits. Hanar touches the skeleton with the Serpentstaff, and while it does heal Hanar to full... it has no effect on the skeleton (immune to poison).

  11. After the Ruach plays her switch-a-roo, Nevdor will attempt to run back across the pit. Gotta get away from these skeletons!

OOC: So I can drop down into the pit (trained in acrobatics, +12), and then climb out in Ashtons square and end my movement in L9. TIME TO SEE WHAT THE RUACH has in store! Does she fear us now?! We have the talisman!

    1. OOC: Sorry, meant to say I will spend my AP. Don't want to get caught with all those skeletons looking at me!
