| Which way do you explore? |
With the rope that Hanrar has attached to the nearby statue, Teryn has no problems descending into the 30' pit. Moments later, she's standing next to Tak-tha. Teryn makes removing a replica Orcus Wand look easy. Loosen this, twist that.. and viola, she now holds a skull-topped wand that gives off a mild emerald glow.
Tak-tha and Teryn ascend out of the pit easily, to find Hanrar attempting to dispel the magic on the Orcus Wands... but the enchantment on the wands are too powerful.
Meanwhile, Brathu summons Salzacas from the corked vial, a shadowy apparition under Brathu's control.
With a torch in its spectral hand, Salzacas proceeds with Teryn as they enter the 10' pit (no problems from the wands) and begin searching their way down the stairs leading west. At the bottom, they receive a good view of the hallway beyond. It forks in two different directions; a northern way turns to head west... or a western way that turns to head south.OOC: Today is one of those over-busy/lots 'o distraction days at work, so if I missed anything important in your posts prior to this, just let me know. I didn't put an icon for Salzacas on the map, yet. Will do that soon if it's needed. If you want to be where Teryn is, just let me know. I'm not even rolling for the 10' pit, as you're HEROES. Or, if you want to explore somewhere else, also let me know. Enjoy! -MilwaukeeJoe

| The hallway leading north, then west ends in a set of iron double doors. |

[Teryn]
ReplyDeleteTeryn pads softly down the stairs, tossing the strange torch-wielding apparition behind her nervous glances. "So this thing just does what you tell it? He gives me the creeps. Or is it a she? I wouldn't want to offend." Seeing the hallway the stairway opens up into, Teryn falls to a knee at the threshold, daggers flashing into her hands as she inspects the floor tiles and walls in sight for signs of booby traps. She also takes a moment to listen for any sounds coming from the twisting hallway. If nothing is evident, Teryn will hold a hand out to Brathu's apparition to halt it. "Alright, if I fall down a well or get filled with poison darts or anything, I want you to go tell the group. Got that, boy?" she whispers. Then the lithe changeling will move as quietly and delicately as possible to the nearest corner and poke her head around the corner to see what lies beyond.
Tech: Listen (Perception +12) for sounds, sniff for odors. Inspect the immediate area (floor, walls, ceiling, statue in K7) for telltale signs of traps. If nothing, draw daggers, move stealthily (+19) to J9 and look down the hallway beyond.
OOC: Prison of Salzacas for the win! One of my absolute favorite magic items.
ReplyDeleteBrathu tentatively hops down into the pit after teryn, and in once swift motion, starts hacking the remaining skull wands apart. "The demon lord is the raven queens enemy, i will not suffer these I will not tokens of his power to harm us again."
DeleteOOC: booyah! I love minions that cannot die. Bjorn, you have the prison now, just don't lose it. We may need it later.
[Brathu]
ReplyDeleteBrathu manages to decimate the skull-wands in the 10' pit. They aren't difficult to destroy.
[Teryn]
Teryn sneaks over to the nearby corner. As far as she can tell, the nearby statue is just another of the iron statues. Peeking around the corner, she sees that the hallway ends in a set of iron double doors.

[Hanrar]
ReplyDeleteThe mage grumbles as his efforts are rebuked by the unholy power of the wands, his face warping into a vexed sneer as he stands, dusting himself off. He watches as Brathu and Teryn descend into the first pit and moves to join them, grasping the rope and swinging down to the floor below, the shattered wands crunching under his boots.
He taps his staff on the floor three times, the tip of it arcing with power, briefly lighting the pit before the glow is devoured by the surrounding gloom. Striding forward into the exposed hallway, he follows quietly behind Teryn and the shadow servant, his sharp eyes piercing the dim hallway, ready to provide backup to the slim rouge.
Walking along the hallway, he inspects the walls, searching for any telltale signs of wear or hidden seams in the stonework, trying again to connect with the innate magical aura of the tomb to discern any arcane presences nearby.

ReplyDeleteIf there's a demilich's tomb that isn't extremely well constructed, you still have yet to find it. This one is no different. Fantastic stonework. Sometimes metal even; a bit of rust here and there.
Hanrar does not detect any magic in the vicinity, other than the magic of their own equipment.
[Yursil]
ReplyDelete"Should go after them, I guess" Yursil rasps, sounding bored.
With that he simply leaps down into the pit and quietly walks his way after the other two, using the torch to locate them. He keeps his eyes open for any traps or magical auras. He keeps his rod raised and ready to unleash his terrible curses on any foes. He found it a bit odd that they hadn't met any opposition so far.

ReplyDeleteHis left hand twitches slightly as he idly twists the quarrel in his arm. He turns to the spritely changeling as he steps closer to her, speaking quietly.
"It seems we are to pass through this dungeon unobstructed. Perhaps we should employ Tak-Tha's 'bag-and-stick' technique before blundering down this hallway as well?" His mouth splits into an amused smirk as he gestures for the gregarious rouge to lead the way.
Kin follows the others into the pit, weary of splitting the party. "which way to scout first?".
ReplyDeleteOOC: coin flip for left or right? No indication of which one matters, yes? We also have two rogues, could explore both at the same time...assuming we want to split up.
[Yursil/Hanrar/Kin Kuro]
ReplyDeleteYou investigate the hallway, but nothing interesting is found. If there are secrets here, they are not given up easily.
OOC: Door to your northwest, and unexplored hallway to your southwest. There's the rest of the Cobblestone Path, and the doors at it's end. Where to, crusaders?
OOC: Whereto, guys? I was anticipating something more like a small room at the end of the stairway from the pit, but this looks like it opens up into the dungeon proper. Maybe it's worth "finishing" the cobblestone path room and seeing where the door at the end of it leads? It would be nice to find out if there's a third pit, too.
ReplyDeleteOOC: My vote is to explore the secret chamber some more, probably finishing up scouting out the hallways before looking through the iron doors we just found.
DeleteOOC: I agree about exploring down here a bit more. Lets go Left, and see where it takes us.
DeleteOOC: Half of the party is already down here, so let's go exploring! Those doors look interesting, let's go kick them down.
DeleteOOC: A little less talk, a little more action, if you please. -Elfis Presley
Delete[Hanrar]
ReplyDeleteWith a heavy sigh, the mage eyes his companions as well as the ever-shifting Salzacas, then proceeds forward, his staff clicking on the stone floor as he walks. "Discretion is admirable, but if our course is set let us be on." He pauses halfway down the hallway to gesture for his fellows to join him before continuing on, peering at the heavy iron doors.
In the flickering gloom of the passageway, he searches them for any odd carvings or embellishments, perhaps some kind of clue as to what may be in store for the adventurers beyond the metal gateway. If everything appears to be normal with no indication of danger, he pushes against them boldly, eager to meet fortune or a swift, painless end.
