The Iron Lich is dismayed at not yet slaying Brathu. "You still live? See if you can survive this, mortal." ------------ POWER WORD KILL!!!!
Tech: Power. Word. Kill. Two targets, Brathu and Yursil. Both are hit, and slain instantly. The Iron Lich sucks both their souls into his gem teeth.
The Iron Lich flies towards the center of the chamber and... ---Action Point---

* Yursil death and...
The events of Yursil's death unfold slowly in his last few moments. He hears the decapitation of the Necrolith, feels the shaking of the chamber. He turns to see that the sarcophagus is no longer empty. It now contains a beautiful woman's body, long dead.
Before he can act, Yursil is subjected to the worst of the death spells - Power Word Kill. He feels the floor rushing up to meet him, and his soul about to be devoured by the Iron Lich.
But wait... an intervention...? A hand from somewhere, a god perhaps... pulling him back. His eyes open, and his wounds are fully healed.
OOC: There are six afterlife cards included with the game. When you die in battle, you draw one and can use that as an encounter power. It just so happens that Yursil rolled up "Resurrection". Yursil, you are prone.
Brathu drew "Shadow Ward". See images for more details.
You all have fresh actions to spend, consider this round 1 of the second-tier of combat. You have until Monday night to post your actions.

Addendum:
ReplyDeleteThe Iron Lich was able to shoot off one more Nether Ray attack, and strangely enough rolled the same damage.
Tech: Nether Rays
Vesten: Hit! 36 nether damage. Vesten is at 6 hp and 0 thp.
Teryn: Miss (again!)
El-Kal: Hit! 36-13=23 nether damage. El-Kal is at -7 hp (KO).
[Teryn]
ReplyDeleteAs the Iron Lich flies free from the necrolith, Teryn is nearly caught flatfooted. She ducks instinctively as one ray of necrotic energy flies at her. Before she can look up again, the chamber seems to explode with magic. The lightning hits and flies through every nerve in her body. Sensing another attack coming, Teryn rolls sideways, dodging away from the wall as it too is struck. Seeing El-Kal and Brathu lying motionless on the floor, Teryn grits her teeth as she rises to a crouch.
"Yursil! Find that goddamn phylactery! I'll distract him!" Blood dripping from her cut face, Teryn flies at the skull, blue daggers streaking behind her.
Tech:
Standard: Vaulting Charge, shift up to 9 squares to L8, +24 vs AC, 3d6+11 damage, plus I get +7 to AC UENT.
Minor: Changeling Trick, I make a bluff (+20) check opposed by his passive insight. On success, I get CA UENT.
Action point to take another minor: Low Slash, +26 vs. AC, 1d6+13 damage, +3d8 sneak attack damage, and I slide him to L10, and he is *slowed* UENT.
Move: Tumble, shift up to 9 squares to Q12.
Note: If I crit on 18-20, add 4d12 damage from my dagger, plus another attack (+26 vs. AC, 3d6+8 damage). And another (+26 vs. AC, 1d6+10 damage).
[Hanrar]
ReplyDeleteSickly purple lightning crackling off his body, the shadar-kai feels a portion of the stolen life essence ebb away, his teeth clenched as he too feels the searing lick of the arcane fire. He shakes off the pain and begins to rattle off his own incantation as he takes long, confident strides down the slender hallway.
As he reaches the mouth of the passage, his eyes flare from behind his skull-shaped halfmask and he intones a word of singular darkness and he exhales a cloud of swirling ether that rushes to envelop the iron lich, seeping into the floating skull.
Through the hazy cloud, images flicker and reflect, the Iron Lich, once again a man stands with his hands bound to a heavy axe, his arms melding with the metal of the haft. The blade itself is too large for any one man to lift but is attached to a thick chain and winch, an automatic engine bringing it up using gears and weight displacement. As the blade reaches its apex, his wife, lovely and dressed in a fine dress steps forward and smiles softly at him as she kneels and lays her head on a block at his waist.
"This is you fault..."
She smiles serenely up at him as the mechanism releases and drops the blade, the torment of his wielding the axe and feeling it bite etches lines of pain into the iron skull. In the vision his wife's body fades away, and the machine begins to clank and bring the axe up again as she once again enters the scene to kneel and torment him.
A sick grin across Hanrar's face, he reaches out and touches one of the grinding, clanking pillars, intoning the enchantment inscribed thereupon and drawing the primal power from its core as he grits his teeth and brings the wand of disintegration to bear, releasing another of its charges at the iron-clad skull.
Tech: Move to S6, cast Phantasmal Killer Minor, Target One creature
Effect The target becomes haunted by an illusion of its deepest fears (save ends). Until the illusion ends, the target can't make opportunity attacks and you can use the secondary power against it.
Phantasmal Killer: Secondary Power: Standard, Intelligence (+16) vs. Will 3d10+8 Psychic damage. Miss Half damage.
Fire a charge from the Wand of Disintegration Minor, +22 vs Reflex, 5d12+12, ongoing 2d20(save ends), ongoing 1d10(save ends)
Burn an AP to activate one of the Clockwork Pillars and recharge Lightning Serpent
EAT IT LICH!!
OOC: Kickass. :)
DeleteOOC: I do try. Hopefully this will keep him distracted, or at least focusing on Hanrar long enough for Yursil to take care of bidness. If he keeps getting plagued by visions of killing his wife again and again, I think I might just be the one to pull agro.
DeleteOOC: Hopefully Teryn and her daggers help with that!
DeleteOOC: wow, looks I had MY 15 minutes of fame! This is brutal. I'll be waiting for him to cast power word kill again, hopefully it saves one of you remaining from the same fate as I!
ReplyDelete[Yursil]
ReplyDeleteEverything moved so slowly...with such familiarity. He had felt once the weightlessness of losing his body once before. Only this time he was being drawn into a soul gem. He thinks to himself how vaguely interesting it was before noting a woman in the sarcophgus next to him. He gives a mental shrug...
Only to be slammed back down in his body. He gasps, his already once dead lungs struggling to provide him breath. The unspeakable pains and aches that he thought he was free from were back once more.
"The woman...anyone else see the woman?" he rasps, trying to collect his thoughts. "She wasn't there a moment ago..."
No one answered him. Yursil closed his eyes, and pulls himself to his feet. Still feeling dazed, he just manages to flicker out of view for a moment, only to reappear next to the woman.
He gazes down at her. She was fair like the paintings. The sound of his friends fighting seemed to dim oddly. Could he really destroy such beauty?
Yursil reached up a shaking hand, drawing once more on an inner reserve of strength that had kept him going the last time he had come back from death. He touches the Occulus, and draws out the power from it and prepares to release it toward the woman.
"Well Iron Lich, you know what they say...an eye for an eye." he rasps.
With that, he releases the power of the Occulus into the woman.
Tech:
Move - stand up from prone.
Move - Ethereal stride (teleport 3 squares) to M3.
AP - Standard - activate Occulus' daily power.
OOC: just have to chime in here, because things have moved so damn fast. Deuce: AWESOME. then boo!
ReplyDeleteIn reaction to the lich dropping el-Kal, I will activate my Harper pin, and reduce that final damage by 13. So I should be up at 6 hp. Still prone, even if just to watch Yursil destroy the phylactery.
El-Kal looks up in time to see Hanrar's magic and Princess Teryn's blades assault the Iron Lich, just as Yursil...
ReplyDeleteOOC: Most interesting. Yursil's player was also the player of the "Last Man Standing" in the Crucible of the Gods run. His last actions did not save the world that time. Will it this time?
Find out in the final post: Game Over.
