Characters: Eladrin Druid, Shapeshifter Rogue, Half-Giant Barbarian, Understudy Lich. The last three were from www.dungeonoracle.com's pregens. (I played the Lich, who didn't do much other than provide some Detect Magic and an extra draw of treasure.)
Note: This was their first time playing 4E and also Fourthcore. They have played Pathfinder several times.
Entrance: Oh man, this tripped them up. They basically tried each portal, dying many times. My son enjoyed dying, I think. He laughed each time! They racked up many deaths by this point... but eventually the found the Hidden Shrine. Deaths: 11
Hidden Shrine: My son went right for the amulet. Lucked out and due to a low roll, did not get killed. He then enjoyed punching the statue a bunch of times, and thanks to luck did not get killed. Vandalism, it's fun!
Great Hub: Oh yes, my son had to get one of those gems. Acid reduced him to a pile of goo. Deaths: 12. At this point, they split up. My son went to Kotaresh, the others went to Asar-Segt.
Asar-Segt: Easy peasy, with my daughters playing more smartly, they got the challenge done in no time. They also figured out that they would have to do something before grabbing the skull! I only gave the usual warning that, "You're standing on holy ground."
Kotaresh: My son got the first puzzle on the first try. And this time I know it was not cheating, as he was too far away to see the answers. It was just amazing. There's only a 1.4% chance of getting it by random on the first try.
The girls joined him and they took on the Kotaresh chamber 2 together. They defeated the stone guardian without too much trouble, and this time my son's luck ran out. He triggered the stone elephant and only he (and the druid's companion wolf) was in the line of fire. He was squashed flat! Deaths: 13
At this point they were struggling, and I did give a hint about the tapestry being a clue and mentioned prime numbers. After that, they got it and obtained their second skull.
Lyth: They really shined here, from having read my Pathfinder Bestiary cover-to-cover long ago. They got only one wrong, and got the rest. They only missed on Rust Monster. Third skull obtained.
And this is where we took a break for the night. My youngest was waning, needed a break.
I asked what they liked so far. Their responses:
- Youngest (daughter): The riddles, tricks and traps.
- Middle (son): Killing stone golems!
- Oldest (daughter): The combats, and that there were traps in the middle of combat.
More to come! They have 1.5 hours left, thanks to finding both time bonuses.
