Ambrose does not sense any magic in the new treasure cache room other than what is on the suit of armor. Joryn walks in and examines the armor, identifying it as Gallery Plate Mail. It's special property allows you to purposely turn into a statue for a short time!
OOC: If two or more players want the same magic item, I'll do a roll off to determine the winner. For now, Joryn has it. Joryn - wear the new armor?
With the acid shut off, Finding has no problem climbing up on the statue and places the two stones into the eyes. They fit perfectly, locking into place. Lohmi looks north, detecting something with his arcane-tuned senses. The three crooked stars on the north doors are giving off an active aura. The best Lohmi can tell, the aura means that the northern doors are ready to be unlocked... but how?
The iron doors are fitted with pull rings. Embossed on their surface are three circles in a row, each with a crooked star in the center. From left to right, the stars have 13 points, 7 points, and 16 points. There is also an empty slot in the center of each star.
OOC: Looking back on the introduction page at http://slamdancr.com/wp/2011/04/weekly-grind-4e-an-introduction/, I don't see that you can't take a short rest here. Therefore, feel free to spend healing surges to bring your hit points back up. Take a look at the Map/Vitals page for current HP and Surge values.
Tharl, I had you spend 2 healing surges per your last post, bringing you up to 24 hit points. If you guys would like me to auto-spend your healing surges during short rests, let me know. Otherwise, you'll need to tell me how many surges you will spend.
Good Luck!
MilwaukeeJoe

Lohmi looks to the north. "It appears that the doors to the north are ready to be opened. Although, I'm not sure how."
ReplyDeleteLohmi carefully approaches the doors to examine the stars and the slots closer.
OOC: How big are the slots? Also, does anyone remember which of the six statues had which number of points? I'm thinking that's significant here.
OOC: The slots on the door are slightly larger, same size as the stone you guys found in the scroll case from the acid pool.
ReplyDeleteOOC: I'm thinking the stone fits into one of the holes. We probably have to pick the right hole. Unfortunately, I can't remember which statues had which stars.
ReplyDeleteOOC: I'd like to add that nobody's really "gone up to the doors" in the north and checked them out. All the perceiving has been done from some distance.
ReplyDeleteJoryn looks around at his allies in their light armor and dons the gallery mail. He walks up to the large statue and reaches his hand out to it's knee and then immediately turns to stone!
ReplyDeleteOOC: I'd like to use a healing surge as well.
ReplyDeleteJoryn is feeling strong and confident!
ReplyDeleteTech: Back to full hp, and 13 surges remaining.
Finding giggles as she climbs down from the main statue, resisting the temptation to clamber across Joryn as well. She walks up the north corridor to examine the doors, checking for traps as she goes.
ReplyDeleteTech: Perception +10 (thievery +8 if needed)
OOC: given that the tunnel behind is closed and there's now no chance of going back for an extended rest (at this stage at least), my artificer powers are pretty much boned in terms of producing healing infusions, just FYI everyone. I have one infusion remaining.
My item augmentation is milestone based and I can do one every milestone so if anyone's weapons need their daily powers recharged, or if anyone wants a +2 bonus to an attack roll (at-will, expires at extended rest or on use) let me know.
Finding gives the northern doors a thurough examination. Indeed, she comes to the conclusion that by placing the stone in one of the three slots, the doors will open. Of course, only the correct slot will gain access.
ReplyDeleteBut if push came to shove, and they chose the wrong slot, she feels that she could still get them through those doors, but it would take a while and be quite a taxing endeavor.
Tech: Even if you fail the puzzle, you can still "muscle" your way through the doors, but it will cost each of you 1 healing surge in the process.
So the question becomes, which slot will you place the final stone?
OOC: Forgot to add, Joryn/Joe - your new armor is also in the Fourthcore Armory (free download from www.saveversusdeath.com!) and is described better in there (such as sustaining the statue effect with minor action).
ReplyDeleteLohmi takes a few moments to rest and contemplate on the puzzle before them. Which statues had the points, which didn't?
ReplyDeleteOOC: Spending 1 healing surge at this time.
My guess is the 13-pointed star hole. It's the only one that matches one of the statue's plaques. Also, it is the sum of the number of points on the bases of statues that had stones similar to the one to be put into a slot.
Vondal says ... "I say the first hole that the stone fits into, we can work our way systematically if it doesn't fit."
ReplyDeleteOOC: That's two votes for the "13" slot. Any other suggestions?
ReplyDelete"Unless the stone is somehow 'consumed' if placed in the wrong slot." Ambrose adds. "Slot 13 works for me. Feels lucky."
ReplyDeleteHe will also take a healing surge.
OOC: I'll give some more time for suggestions, but it's so far unanimous that Slot 13 is the one.
ReplyDeleteFinding shrugs. "Unless any of you feel like trying to identify the aura around each hole in more detail, I can't think of any reason why either of the others would be any different to the 13th."
ReplyDeleteLohmi clambered back to his feet.
ReplyDelete"I'll take a closer look at the holes." he says, as he makes his way over to the north doors.
OOC: Arcana check on the doors.
Lohmi comes to the conclusion that the aura itself is simply an aura similar to Wizard Lock. It was there the entire time, most likely; just became more pronounced after Finding placed the stones in the large statue's eyes.
ReplyDeleteOOC: I'm going to wait until Noon CST tomorrow to see if there are any counter suggestions, and then proceed with slot-13 as the choice.
Galad trusts the judgement of the others in the party and does not speak up as he moves closer to the northern doors with the rest of the group.
ReplyDeleteJoryn (still a stone statue) says nothing.
ReplyDeleteOOC: I'm happy with whatever party decides.
Ambrose takes a second healing surge if needed to raise his hp count more. Not sure if I am reading the stats board correctly with (-) (+) and total.
