Chamber 2-3: Sacrificial Shrine

Finding uses what knowledge she has of magic in an attempt to undo the power of the mural. Ambrose does as well, and both sense they are starting to puncture the shell of the enchantment around it.
OOC: Two successes, no failures. I added up actions from last round, and each of you had just one action to spend on the Arcana attempts.

A swarm of skeletons!
Suddenly and without warning, an entire score of skeletons step out from the curtains as if passing through a waterfall; 10 on the west side, 10 on the northeast side! (OOC: Or more accurately, on the west they appear where the curtain was.) They swarm around you with longswords drawn, and longbows raining arrows down upon you! Their aim is poor, but their numbers are massive.
Tech:
Galad: 2 hits for 6 damage
Ambrose: 1 hit for 4 damage
Joryn: 1 hit for 4 damage
Finding: 3 hits for 11 damage

Galad feels the Mural's presence attempting to force its way into his mind, but he resists...
Tech: Mural will attack on Galad, miss.

To the north, Lohmi can hear something approaching him. He saw the curtain ripple as if something passed through, but he can't see anything!

OOC: Joryn, you weren't able to go up to the altar this round or do your knowledge checks, as you ran out of actions (standard: help tip over the font, move: move to font, minor: avert gaze). Unless you wanted to spend an action point?

  1. OOC: If you wish to continue averting your gaze, you must spend a minor action to do so.

Those who averted gaze last round: Lohmi, Vondal, Joryn, Tharl, Ambrose.

If you are making attacks, please refer to the skeletons by #.

  2. Lohmi was seriously freaked out by the curtain moving on it's own. The only theory he had was that one of the spirits had entered with him.

"There's something invisible in here with me!" Lohmi yells.

Lohmi immediately scoops up and wields the dagger. By the sound of things, the others were in trouble as well. Lohmi immediately swings the dagger, sending a wave of force out from his location. Then he makes for the curtain.

OOC: Minor action: pick up the dagger. Standard action: Sword burst. move action: Moving to straight to O7 and through the curtain if possible.

  3. OOC: sorry, i was just moving on to next set of actions.

Joryn snarls at the creeping undead warriors and bashes into the skeleton at his side, hoping to bite his sword into the bony exterior of the creature.

    TECH:
Standard: Valiant Strike against Skeleton 10(+12 vs. AC with 3 adjacent skeletons)
    Move: Shift to K9
    Minor: Avert Gaze.

  4. Joryn's sword dispatches the decrepit skeleton with ease, sending it to the floor in a pile of bones.
Tech: 29 vs AC for a hit! 11 points of damage for the kill.

OOC: I'll get to Lohmi's results in a bit.

  5. OOC: Also Lohmi will go ahead and cut the curtain down to get through it faster. (He's that freaked out, as am I!)

  6. Lohmi emerges through the center of the curtain, pulling the curtain and ducking underneath it. His legs look a bloody mess, as if something just attacked him!
Tech: Lohmi down to 12 hp.

  7. Ambrose yells basck to Vondal a second time, "Check that last comment. We need you here fighting this swarm of skeleton NOW!!"

  8. OOC: As per previous turn, Finding is actually at J13

Finding wipes her eyes, steps forward and viciously swipes at the skeleton in front of her (#6), a crunch of grinding gears surrounding her as a burst of energy accompanies the attack. As soon as she finishes her swipe, she quickly refocuses on the mural and again attempts to shut it down.

    Tech:
Move: forward one square to I13
Attack: skeleton #6 using scourge and magic weapon (at will: Intelligence (+7) vs. AC, 1d8+5 damage
Hit: 1[W] + Intelligence modifier damage, and each ally adjacent to you gains a +1 power bonus to attack rolls and a power bonus to damage rolls equal to your Constitution modifier or your Wisdom modifier until the end of your next turn. Ambrose and Tharl are adjacent - use my Wisdom modifier (+3))
    Minor: Arcana +9 on mural

  9. Finding slips on a bit of blood on the floor, and has to abort her attack to regain her footing! However, she still maintains her concentration on the mural's disjunction, cracking the aura just a bit more.

Tech: Natural 1 on attack, but you at least put the # of successes against the mural up to 3 of the 12 needed.

Dan, thanks for putting me straight on the map. I put the skeletons right next to you still, they would have moved to attack you at J13.

  10. OOC: Note, even if you only have a single minor to do the Arcana check, I will allow. :)

  11. Feeling a bit clusterphobic, the elven mage nevertheless averts his gaze and attempts twice to disrupt the mural's foul magic.

    Tech >>

    minor action: avert gaze

move action 1: arcana check to disrupt mural (+11)

move action 2: arcana check to disrupt mural (+11)

  12. Tharl jumps into action, moving quickly behind his spirit companion. He puts his momentum behind his longspear, and thrusts at one of the skeletons beside Finding. Chanting in a low voice he calls on healing spirits to help Lohmi.

Tech: Move to K12 (will provoke an opp attack) Longspear attack on skeleton 19 (+3 vs. ac, 1d10 dam, piercing). Healing spirit on Lohmi (close burst 5, allows Lohmi to spend a healing surge. If he does, Joryn can also regain 1d6 hp.) Please double check my numbers

  13. Feeling is getting the hang of it, continuing to use her knowledge of magic to further the shutdown of the mural.
Tech: 2 more successes, for a total of 5 of 12 needed.

  14. OOC: Note, when considering the map for actions, use the one in the "Vitals" tab. That will be the more current one. The map in the main post above is not updated for events that occur in the comments. (James/Tharl will be redoing his post.)

  15. OOC: I'm reading the wrong map. Alterations in tech: Tharl moves through Finding to J13, and attacks skeleton 16. Spirit companion moves to J10. Effects are the same.

    ReplyDelete
  16. As Tharl moves into position, the nearby skeleton slashes him with his sword. Tharl doesn't have as much luck on the skeleton he targets, his spear deflected by his target's ribcage.
Tech: Hit for 4 damage on Tharl. Tharl missed the skeleton.

Seeing his companions engaging in battle, Lohmi feels better about his situation.
Tech: Healing Spirit on Lohmi, who is up to 22 hit points and currently at 6 healing surges. Meanwhile, Joryn also heals up to full, thanks to the Spirit companion next to him.

  18. Galad shrugs off the hits, points his finger at Skeleton 2, announces "thou shalt depart this place" as he rases his blade above his head and brings the blow down on it's head.

Tech: Minor - Oath of Emnity on Skeleton 2
Standard - Focused Fury on Skeleton 2, +11 vs AC, 1d10+7
If hits: shift Skeleton 3 two squares to E12 and move to I15, taking 2 opp-attacks (skeleton 1 and 2).

If misses: shift 1 square to D15

OOC: I had moved to I13 on the last post to push over the blood fountain, but several things have happened since then and there's no since in retconning everyone's moves and the attack round the skeletons just took.

    ReplyDelete
  19. With practiced expertise, Galad pushes one of the skeletons backward and dispatches yet another, all before escaping to the east.
Tech: You rolled 22 vs AC and hit! You did 9 points of damage and destroyed Skeleton 2. Skeleton 3 pushed. Sorry about the position confusion, I waived any opportunity attacks for the round.

  20. OOC: I think we're waiting only on Vondal at this point. If Vondal's player doesn't post by tomorrow morning-ish, I will assume default actions (ranged attack). Sit tight, new post coming tomorrow!

  21. Vondal does a careful attack and easily and successfully eliminates Skeleton #19 ... (Worked out with DM in offline chat.)
