Chamber 6-6: Sanguinary

[Ambrose]
Ambrose raises his new wand and fires at the triple-headed hydralith. The flaming bolt is wide to the left, missing utterly. The hydralith attempts to take a bite out of Ambrose, but Ambrose dodges well.

[Travok]
Travok performs a Paladin's Lay on Hands on the bars, but nothing happens.
OOC: Travok is the new Amelia Bedelia!

[Smudge]
Smudge calms himself for the task ahead.
OOC: Smudge does one of those awesome Indiana Jones things, where he preps up to take the Idol and not trigger the trap.  Let's see if he can fare better.

[Aramagan]
Aramagan one more focuses his gaze upon Joryn, extending his will into the cavalier. Joryn's eyes go glossy, his body rigid. Aramagan produces a dagger from his cloak, and leans in close to whisper, "This will only hurt for a moment. It will all be over soon."

The sick, wet sound of metal blade penetrating mortal flesh permeates the chamber.

A moment later, Aramagan drops - DEAD. Joryn's blade slides out of him as he falls, and Aramagan's unused dagger clangs upon the stone!

Tech: Aramagan missed with his attack, so I rolled a bluff check for Joryn. Joryn rolled natural 19! I ruled that Aramagan didn't realize his attack failed and attempted to move through the adjacent portal. That triggered an Opportunity Attack for Joryn, who used it to kill his foe.

[Hydralith]
All three of the heads bite Ambrose leaving bloody wounds. One of the heads picks Ambrose up like a rag doll, and throws him against the western wall! Ambrose drops, unconscious.
Tech: Ambrose has a great AC, but the dice were hot today for 25 points of damage. Ambrose is at -4 hp.

Immediately, Mika begins to feel the effects of a teleport. He's going to get dragged into the cell! Acting fast, Mika begins an impromptu counterspell... and succeeds! The teleport sensation goes away, and Mika remains.

OOC: Hope you don't mind me narrating it up like this. Sometimes a miss is a miss, and sometimes it's more! You're down two dungeoneers, and only the hydralith to deal with.

Good Luck!

  1. We must kill that statue! Mika states, and starts moving toward the cage. He was glad he quickly negated the teleportation effect. He could tell he was pretty close to collapsing himself. With a few quick words, he seals the statues doom.

    Tech:
    Moving to C10

Using Astral Seal on the statue.
Attack Wisdom +2 vs Reflex: +7 vs Reflex
On hit: until the end of your next turn, the target takes a -2 penalty to all defense. The next ally who hits it before the end of your next turn regains hit points equal to 2 + Cha Modifer (+2). Total healed will be 8 due to the Healer's Lore class feature (adds Wis modifier to all hp healed by Healing powers).

  2. OOC: I want to see how Joryn keeps alive this round. He took 5 points of poison damage for being in the lower tier, bringing him to 4 hp. If he enters the stairs, he will take 5 points fire and drop to -1. If he stays where he is, he will drop from poison damage next round.

I say these things not to help Joryn, but to taunt him.

  3. Joryn flicks the blood from his blade and spits on the body of the dead cultist in front of him. "I told you I was going to kill you." He then turns back and looks at the stairwell. No chance going up that way again. He instead turns his attention to the half-wall next to him, the cleric's head poking over the top. Joryn sheathes his sword and reaches for hand holds on the wall trying to pull himself over the top and out of the toxic cloud.

    Tech:
    Minor action: Sheathe weapon
Move action: move to B5 and attempt to climb wall ending in square B6.

if successful, use Standard to spend Second Wind and regain 8 hp.
if unsuccessful, use Standard to try climbing again.

  4. Tharl tries not to walk down the long tunnel, into the light.

  5. Tharl slips one step closer to death.

Tech: Natural 8 on the save versus death. That's the first failed save for Tharl this encounter...

  6. [Joryn]
Joryn's attempt to climb the 20' foot wall is admirable... and just as he's about to lose his grip, he feels someone grab his hand...

It's Mika! How lucky that Mika was there!

Tech: It took both actions to get up there, and I gave a free +2 bonus for Mika being right there to help. You totally needed that bonus. You are now at B6 on the map.

  7. Ambrose slips one step closer to death.

Tech: Same natural 8 on the save! That's the first failed save for Ambrose this encounter.

  8. Ambrose is embraced by a warm darkness and wonders where the others are and who turned out the lights and why his wand of firey bolt fired a crossbow bolt instead of the blast of fire like the first time. So many questions and no sense of time. Why? Yeah another question to add to the others.

  9. OOC: Above post corrected. Wand, not crossbow. Thanks for pointing that out Ambrose, now I can deduct one more charge from the wand! :EG:

  10. As he finishes steadying himself and studying the lock, Smudge quickly and confidently attempts to unlock the cage door.

    Tech: 9 Thievery + 4 Knack for Success + 1 Necklace of Keys item bonus = 15

If I do end up firing the trap, my trap sense gives me +2 to my defenses.

OOC: Fingers crossed for a 10 or higher. I'll do the rest of the turn upon the result of this check Also will this check be a minor or standard action this turn?

  11. Smudge avoids death, picking the lock on the jail cell door!

  12. OOC: Smudge, that was a minor action to pick the lock.

  13. Smudge grunts a satisfied grunt as he hears the tumblers align and the lock click open. Removing his tools, he looks down the barrel of the lock and notes that had he misjudged, his death would likely have been immediate. He smiles to himself and a brief prayer to his goddess crosses his mind.

He turns to the paladin and says, again in Dwarvish, "take your hands off the door, and try them on those two corpses while you can." He boldly steps forward with some skillful footwork, quickly readies his crossbow, and looses a bolt at the monstrosity on the wall. The black feather tied to the end whistles as it races through the air.

    Tech:
Move - Acrobat's Trick to C10 (move up to speed -2, gain a +2 power bonus to next damage roll with a basic attach)
Standard - Ranged Basic Attack, Crossbow. Dex (+7) v AC. Damage 1d6 + 5 + 2. Plus modifiers from Mika's earlier attack if I understand correctly how that one works.

  14. Ambrose gave his wand of firey bolt a hard shake and absent-mindedly sent a firey bolt just missing off his left foot. Well wasn't that a waste of a wand charge? Another question. He thought he would count them as a mental exercise to keep his wits while the others surely sought a way to turn on the lights. Where are you guys? ... Number 5 ...

  15. [Smudge]
Smudge's crossbow lands true, destroying one of the three hydra heads! However, right before your very eyes, you see the head begin to regenerate...

OOC: I just got a new laptop, getting used to Windows 7. Travok, hope you get your post in soon! I aim to get the villain's attacks in tomorrow.

  16. [Travok]

Travok replies in dwarvish, "Ah you speak of my people's tongue." and moves to Tharl. Kneeling, Travok lays hands on him.

    [ooc]

    Move action: move to D12
Minor action: lay hands on shaman
    Free action: talking
    Standard action: none

  17. Smudge shrugs and replies, "yeah, I was pretty much raised by a dwarf." Indicating the regenerating head of the hydra he says "work quickly, then we might have to drag these two out of here - or even just flee ourselves."

    Tech: Free action - talking

  18. OOC: Post coming tomorrow, promise! I spent my freetime today with a serious effort towards making a Fourthcore adventure, attempting to be on par with the likes of Revenge of the Iron Lich and Crucible of the Gods. Current working title: Castle of Grief.

  19. OOC: Fantastic, can't wait to see it when it's ready! And if you need a playtester... ;)
