Chamber of the Gods: Enter the Guardians

The Dracolisk breathes a massive stream of acid at you!

Tech: Action Point: Acid Breath Weapon, close blast 5
Bhareg (Lyth Boast): Hit for 19 dmg and ongoing 5 acid (save ends). The hit reduces temp hp to 19, but the successful boast places the temp hp right back to 38. Action point gained!
Hanar (Lyth Boast): Hit for 19 dmg and ongoing 5 acid (save ends). Hanar is down to 9 hp (bloodied), but the successful boast gives him 38 temp hp. Action point gained!
Selvantis: Miss for 9 dmg. Selvantis is down to 20 hp.
Tak-tha (Lyth Boast): Hit for 19 dmg and ongoing 5 acid (save ends). Tak-tha is down to 1 hp (bloodied), but the successful boast gives him 38 temp hp. Action point gained!
Reveling in your successful divine boasts, you almost don't see the four warrior materialize! One in each of the four obelisk alcoves. They bring the battle to you immediately..

Let's introduce your new foes...

The Maurauder gives Hanar a wicked smile as she withdraws from the southwest alcove, circling around with great speed to attack Selvantis! Once, twice does her flail hit the half-tiger half-elf creature, drawing blood.
Tech: 10 damage to Selvantis, bringing him down to 10 hp (bloodied).

The Assassin is next (from southeast), flying invisibly above the battlefield on wings of death. It takes a central location in the battle, then sends a poison blowdart towards Selvantis.
Tech: 5 damage to Selvantis, bringing him down to 5 hp (bloodied). He also takes ongoing 10 poison damage (save ends).

Third comes the Chaneller (northwest), who charges forward with arms outstretched. The gems in his hands glow briefly, causing vipers to swarm all over Hanar, Tak-tha and Selvantis.
Tech: Only Tak-tha hit for 12 poison damage. Tak-tha has 26 temp hp and 1 normal hp.

Finally, the Doom-Paladin (northeast). She swiftly maneuvers from the far northeast obelisk and weaves in around the statues. Getting close but not yet striking, with bone sword in hand.

And through all this, Arden is ignored... Perhaps his hiding spot is well chosen?

Start of Crusader's Round 1
Ongoing 5 acid damage:
  Bhareg: 33 thp, 27 hp
  Hanar: 33 thp, 9 hp
  Tak-tha: 21 thp, 1 hp

Ongoing 10 poison damage:
  Selvantis: -5 hp, KO!

Selvantis falls to the ground, unconscious...

  1. OOC: Be sure to check over your crusader in the vitals tab. I quadruple-checked the numbers, and tried to make sure everything was in there. I might have missed something. Thanks!

  2. Ooc: oh bums... I should have boasted as well. Show me for not trusting Lyth...

  3. Hanar immediately steps into action. First, he activates a rune to heal Selvantis. He skirts around the dracolisk's range in order to strike at the Channeler.

OOC: Tech, moving to B13, then B13-B10, then to C9.

Minor: Rune of Mending on Selvantis - he spends a healing surge.

Attacking C (Channeler) With Word of Diminishment (a la Rune of Protection).

Str +6 vs. AC 1d10+5 damage On hit - takes a penality equal to Hanar's Constitution modifier until the end of his next turn (3).

Maybe one of these guardians has a black heart!

  4. Hanar revives Selvantis and brings the attack to the Channeler of Kishar!

Tech: Selvantis is Prone, at 9 hp. Hit on the Channeler; 12 damage and he now takes a -3 to damage rolls until the end of your next turn. Bloodied!

  5. [Tak-tha]
Seeing his fellow ranger go down, Tak-tha immediately turns and strikes at the Marauder, moving as quickly and powerfully as a snake.

    Tech
Minor: Aspect of the Dancing Serpent

Standard: MBA - +10 vs AC
    2d8 +5
On hit, follow with Dual Weapon Attack
    +9 vs AC
    1d6 +4

OOC: My turn isn't quite over yet, still have an action point, move action, and my free shift at the end of my turn. Mostly want to see what happens to the Marauder first.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Tak-tha is pissed! He takes his rage out on the Marauder of Kishar quite effectively, dropping his foe in moments.

Tech: Critical hit on AotDS, and the DWA brings that up to 29 damage. The Marauder drops to the ground, dead.

    ReplyDelete
  7. OOC: Nice! So, uh, how do we cut into one of these guys to get to their hearts? Burn an encounter power like the room with the previous guardian?

    ReplyDelete
  8. OOC: Now that you've asked, I'll reveal that it will be a simple Standard Action to resolve. No rolls needed. It does NOT draw an Opportunity Attack.

    ReplyDelete
  9. OOC: I don't suppose feeding whatever heart is dug out to the dracolisk will be feasible as a move action?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. OOC: Standard action, and you must be within two squares of the dracolisk.

      Delete
  10. Tak-tha digs into the fallen guardian, retrieving the heart and holding it ready, before taking a couple of safe steps back.

    Tech
Action Point: Retrieve the Marauder's Heart

Move + Free Action: Shift to B12

OOC: Maybe this will give me some room to charge next round. Tak-tha holds the heart in his lower arms, so anyone can take it from him for a free action.

  11. [Arden]

Arden sees the chamber explode into action. A flying dracolisk along with a host of other enemies. He sees an opening when one of the Guardians pauses next to dracolisk. Arden reaches into the mind of the Dracolisk and causes it to see it's ally as an enemy.

Tech: Hypnotism +6 vs Will on the Dracolisk. If it hits the Dracolisk, the Dracolisk melee basic attacks the Channeler (C) as a free action with a +4 power bonus to the attack roll.

    ReplyDelete
  12. [Arden]

Arden sees the pain dished out by the dracolisk against his friends and knows that this fight needs to end quickly or it will end badly. Reaching deep down into his arcane reserves he sends forth another blast against the mind of the dracolisk causing it to break off the attack against its enemies and attack an ally instead.

Tech: Action Point. Cast Charm of Misplaced Wrath against the dracolisk. When it hits, slide the dracolisk to (J8,K9) and have it make a melee basic attack against the Paladin Guardian. +2 power bonus to damage on hit against the Guardian. If the attack against the dracolisk misses and Arden feels like he was close he will push through using his Heroic Effort human racial power +4 to the attack role.

  13. Nevdor moves over to the hut door and hisses at the guardians.

OOC: THERE'S A SNAKE IN MY BOOTS! Seriously though, I'm just waiting for a saving throw...whats my move speed? Can I hide in this form? I would like to move to H5, and be near combat but (hopefully) hidden. That way, when/if I save, I can surprise any guardians left.

  16. RET-CON: I had posted about 30 minutes ago that Selvantis did some moves. However, he was immobilized and could not have done them. Re-winding this and allowing him to change his action. That means the dracolisk has not yet taken damage.

    [Tak-tha]
Tak-tha carves into the Marauder's chest, pulling out a black BEATING heart! He takes a step back, away from the Dracolisk.

    [Arden]
Arden's magic seems to have no effect on the dracolisk, the magic fizzling as soon as it is evoked. Trying again (Charm of Misplaced Wrath), he pours all his intensity into the attack and succeeds! The dracolisk, confused, charges over to attack the Doom-Paladin instead of you. The Doom-Paladin dodges the bite.
Tech: Natural 1 on the Hypnotism. You had to use Heroic Effort to hit on the Charm of Misplaced Wrath. Miss on his free attack of the Doom-Paladin. Dracolisk DAZED (until end of your next turn)!

    [Nevdor]
Nevdor slithers out of the hut at pretty good speed. He's surprised at how quickly he's catching on to serpentine movement. Arriving at his location (H5), he suddenly finds himself returned to normal!
Tech: Same move, same hide skill. But it doesn't matter, you saved and are back to normal at H5.

  17. [Arden]

Tech: Arden hasn't moved so he would like to trade his move action for pulling out his Healing Potion and (minor) tossing it to Selvantris. If that is possible otherwise we'll do it next round.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Done. Selvantis grabs a hold of Arden's Potion of Healing!

    ReplyDelete
  19. [Selvantis]

Gritting his teeth and sweating heavily, the ranger awakens on the sandy floor of the chamber, poison coursing through his veins and his limbs slowly stiffening and becoming numb.

He focuses on remembering his survival training and the rigors he's faced while living off the land, trying to purge the filth from his body and breathe life back into his dying limbs.

In a sudden rush, the tension in his body abates his skin coated in thick, oily sweat as the poison seeps from his pores. The feeling slowly returns to his limbs as he sits up, turning to see Arden offering him a prized potion of healing.

He weakly nods and croaks his thanks as climbs slowly to his feet, taking the vial and gulping down the concoction immediately.

Tech: Rise from prone, consume potion [does the Lyth boon affect this total?]

    ReplyDelete
  20. OOC: Selvantis is up to 19 hp, down to 5 surges. Not affected by the boon.

    ReplyDelete
  21. [Bhareg]
Sensing his opening, Bhareg slips behind Tak-tha, grabs the heart, and flings it at the dazed monster!

OOC: Ugh. Slightly confused. So, Selvantis never used the heart, correct? And where exactly is the Dracolisk?

    •   Steel Wind to move to E-11.
    •   Free to grab heart.
    •   Minor to Healing Word either Selvantis or Tak-tha, whoever wants it more. Surge+1d6, and +2 to attacks UENT.
    •   If the 'lisk is close enough, chuck the heart.
    •   If it's not, move close enough, then AP to chuck.

I mentioned Dark Reaping in the OOC post, but as I'm not attacking this round, I'll metagame and not have actually mentioned it...

    ReplyDelete
  22. OOC: Vitals tab updated with up-to-date map.

    ReplyDelete
  23. [Bhareg]
Making his move, Bhareg quickly passes by Tak-tha, grabbing the black heart of the Marauder from the Thri-Kreen. Without missing a step, he approaches the dracolisk and lets the heart loose! It flies into the mouth of the right-head, and the entire beast shudders for a moment.

Tech: Ok, NOW it's 50 points to the dracolisk! Not yet bloodied. Map updated within moments, let me know if that's where you envisioned ending up.

    ReplyDelete
  24. OOC: Bhareg, take a look at the vitals and give me a target for the Healing Word.

    ReplyDelete
  25. [Bhareg]
Selvantis feels a rush of energy as Bhareg's Healing Word fills him with vitality!

    ReplyDelete
  26. OOC: Selvantis is at full hp, and down to 4 surges.

  27. OOC: Have you made the saving throws for the rest of us as well?

    1. Yes! Bhareg and Tak-tha makes their saves against ongoing damage. Hanar does not, even though his saves are best... he rolled a 1.

You got this! I totally see you guys ending this adventure with a positive score. Probably.

  29. [Dracolisk]
Dazed, the great three-headed one focuses on its basilisk gaze attack. Three heads, three crusaders to target! After passing around the basilisk attack, it shakes off the daze and brings it full force.
Tech: Triple Gaze. Arden and Nevdor are immobilized and will be petrified if they fail their next save. The dracolisk is no longer dazed due to being awesome (action recovery). Action Point: Second Wind! Dracolisk regains 30 hp.

    [Assassin]
Bhareg feels the sting of a poison blowdart his him, where did it come from?
Tech: 8 damage, and ongoing 10 poison (save ends). Bhareg now has 25 thp and 27 hp.

    [Channeler]
The eyeless channeler steps away from Hanar and casts a wicked spell through the crystals in his hands. He targets Bhareg with a Phantasmal Force spell, but Bhareg resists the images that attempt to cloud his mind.
    Tech: Miss!

    [Doom-Paladin]
The female doom-paladin first points to the Channeler, and you see his wounds heal over! Second, she brings the attack to Bhareg, striking with her bone sword at his flank!
Tech: 10 points of damage to Bhareg, bringing him down to 15 thp. Channeler no longer bloodied.

    [Channeler, Free Attack!]
Empowered by the Doom-Paladin, the Channeler looses a Force Arrow at Bhareg. Alas, it hits the statue instead.
Tech: Free attack granted by the Doom-Paladin, but rolled a 1.

    --- Crusaders Turn ---
Hanar takes 5 points of acid damage (ongoing). Down to 28 thp.

  30. [Selvantis]

Shaking the cobwebs from his mind and stinking of poisoned sweat, the ranger draws his blades and leaps into action. He charges towards the eyeless channeler, focusing his hunting instincts on the damnable creature.

He strikes out with both blades, his eyes flashing with a hunger for vengeance as he lets out a lustful howl.

Tech: Move to D9, Hunter's Quarry the Channeler, Twin Strike +9 Vs AC, 1d8+4/1d8+4 +1d6(HQ) on hit

    ReplyDelete
  31. [Selantis]
Selvantis expertly separates the head of the Channeler from the body. The crystals in the Channeler's hands crack and crumble to dust as he falls over, DEAD.

Tech: 14 points of damage, but who's counting?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Seeing the Channeler fall, Hanar moves up to remove the heart from the guardian. Holding the heart up high, Hanar yells out 'Who can toss this in?'

OOC: Moving to E8, removing the heart.

Action point: If a party member asks for the heart, Hanar will use an action point to toss it to them.

*Hanar also has one heal left, but it doesn't look like anyone is hurting too badly. Probably will save it for if anyone collapses.

    ReplyDelete
  33. [Hanar]
Hanar has the second black heart in his hands.

    ReplyDelete
  34. OOC: Tak-tha only has 1 HP once the THPs are gone.

If someone can kill the Paladin and remove its heart, Tak-tha has enough speed to move by Hanar and the second character, collect the hearts as a free action, and throw them both into the dracolisk with a standard and his action point from the boast.

100 points of damage in a single turn = an amazing striker :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nevdor shouts to hanar and waves his arms frantically, as his lower portion turns to stone! "throw it to me!".

OOC: i know I am 3sq away, any chance I can throw it at the dracolisk from here? Willing to roll a ranged atk roll to try! Gotta do something before I petrify.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. OOC: I'll let you attempt the roll, ranged basic attack against defense 17. That's a natural 10 or better. If you miss, the heart is lost.

      Delete
  36. OOC: up to you then hanar. Tak-tha can always run up and grab it for the easier lay-up. I'm always willing to gamble, but if we lose the heart, I volunteer my own in its place.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. OOC: Who else can still attack? Maybe we can bring that paladin down first.

      Delete
  37. [Arden]

Arden feels the deadly gaze of the Dracolisk wash over him and instantly feels his legs stiffen. He knows the slow creep of doom will wash over him leaving him a stone statue to honor this place. Arden readies what will probably be his final spell, the most power spell he knows and waits for just the right moment to cast it. While he waits he cracks the seal on the Elixer of Slaughter and downs it in a gulp. Of course it tastes horrible but in the moment he hardly notices.

Tech: minor action drink the Elixer of Slaughter

OOC: if there is any way to push P closer to the Dracolisk I could zap them both. Otherwise do we want damage to P or damage and immobilize on the Dracolisk?

    ReplyDelete
  38. OOC: Get the hearts lined up, I say. Focus what we have left at paladin, then let Tak-tha go last here to try and bring it home! Maybe we only need the three hearts to kill it!

    ReplyDelete
  39. [Nevdor]
Downing the Elixir of Slaughter, Arden feels great strength in his limbs.

Tech: +5 to damage rolls UENT

    ReplyDelete
  40. [Arden]

Arden feels his mortality and knows that it is now or never. He gathers a mighty blast of arcane energy in his orb and sends it out to blast the minds of his enemies.

Tech: Phantom Chasm in square H9. +6 vs Will against the Paladin. 2d6+5 (+5 for Elixer) on Hit target is prone and Immobilized until the end of its next turn. Miss: Half Damage and prone.

Effect: burst creates a zone that lasts until the end of the encounter, any enemy that enters the zone falls prone.

    ReplyDelete
  41. [Arden]

Arden screams as he unleashes his arcane blast, "In Kishar's name I destroy your mind."

Tech: Arden adds Kishar's Divine Boast to his attack.

ooc: once I am stone being weakened and granting combat advantage won't matter all that much.

    ReplyDelete
  42. [Arden]
Arden feels the curse of Kishar fall upon him as his attack misses the Doom-Paladin.

Tech: The Doom-Paladin still takes 9 points of damage and is prone (not yet bloodied). Arden loses a healing surge (7 remaining) and is cursed by Kishar until the end of the encounter. While cursed, he is weakened and grants combat advantage. Additionally, Arden may not boast to Kishar again during this adventure.

On the bright side, he saves against immobilization and petrifaction!

    ReplyDelete
  43. [Bhareg]
The necrotic energy from the death of the Channeler funnels towards Bhareg's open palm. After watching the Doom-Paladin drop to her knees in front of him, the pale monk spins his staff so quickly it looks like it's spinning backwards! This propels him between the Dracolisk and the statues like some crazy whirligig, striking everyone in range as decisively as possible!

    OOC: Whoo, daily!
    •   Free (in reaction to Channeler dropping): Dark Reaping (+1d8+2 extra necrotic to damage of my choice in the next round)
    •   Standard: Spinning Leopard Maneuver
        •   Shift to I7 -> M7
        •   +4 vs Ref against Paladin, Dracoisk, & Assassin
        •   2d6+4 damage, miss for half
    •   Free: Flurry of Blows
        •   5 damage, slide 1
    •   Minor: chug the Krater

Ok. So part of this depends on how you interpret the order of operations with Spinning Leopard. I'm hoping you resolve the attacks,
then choose FoB target (in which case, from last to first). If you resolve each attack individually for FoB validity, then use it first to last. Same with Dark Reaping.

    If I FoB:
    •   the Paladin, shift to H9.
    •   the Dracolisk, do not shift.
    •   the Assassin, shift to M8.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. OOC: Sorry to do this to you, but now that I'm really looking at the details or your attack, I realize that the assassin is flying and well above your reach. The assassin is 20 feet above you. Since that takes out 1/3rd of your targets, I'll let you decide if spending a daily is worth it here.

As for FoB/Dark Reaping selection, let's keep it simple. I'll post the effects of your attack without FoB/Dark Reaping, and you can then decide which to apply it to. Stuff like this is more difficult to handle in a play-by-post, let's play it by ear.

  44. [Bhareg]
    Bhareg is a spinning whirlwind!

Tech: Hit on Paladin (11 damage, bloodied) and Dracolisk (11 damage). Miss on Assassin (5 damage). You have Flurry of Blows and Dark Reaping to dish out yet. Paladin looks in rougher shape than the Assassin. Let me know ASAP on how you want to dish out the damage (and the slide 1), and where you end up on the map. Thanks!

OOC: The last couple of days has been a little nuts at work, therefore the slight slowdown you might be noticing. I'm eager to get back to the dracolisk's attacks!

    ReplyDelete
  45. [Hanar]
With a surge of heroism, Hanar lunges toward the paladin, triggering the magic of his snake staff.

OOC: Burning an action point to take a 5-foot step. Minor action to activate the snake staff: 19 poison damage to the paladin and Hanar heals 19 points of damage (to full health!)

(Hanar should have 1 action point left after this).

    ReplyDelete
  46. [Bhareg]
The Paladin stumbles forward with the ferocity of Bhareg's attack, and the necrotic energy gleaned from the Channeler's death is funneled right into the Dracolisk!

Bhareg's staff spins down, and he strikes that action-hero pose looking down his arm with his robes billowing behind him, as the Assassin swoops away from the brunt of his strikes!

OOC: Andrew's post happened just as I was typing this. The plan was to use FoB on the Paladin and slide him to H-9 (within heart-chucking range of the 'Lisk), but if that invalidates Hanar's actions, slide to H-9 instead. Either way, 5 damage to the Pally. (separate damage source for DR, if applicable)

Dark Reaping on the 'Lisk - adds 1d8+2 necrotic to the damage roll (same source for DR, if applicable). Bhareg (with a final move action) ends his turn with a shift to N-6, splitting up the blast targets for the 'Lisk. Also, if it's permissible, Bhareg does not at this time chug the Krater.

    ReplyDelete
  47. [Bhareg]
By the time Bhareg is done with his whirlwind assault, the Doom-Paladin has crumpled to the floor, DEAD, and the dracolisk is starting to show signs of wounding, slowing in its movements!
Tech: The flurry of blows took the Doom-Paladin down below zero, and the Dark Reaping brought the dracolisk to bloodied (8 damage). Also, Bhareg saves vs the ongoing 10 poison! You did NOT use the Krater.

    [Hanar]
Hanar rushes forward to stand beside the fallen Doom-Paladin.
Tech: Action reworked from previous through google chat; I let the player know that the Doom-Paladin would be down before Hanar could get to him. Save that staff for another time. Also, Hanar saves vs the ongoing 5 acid!

    [Nevdor]
Nevdor manages to shake off the immobilization and the petrifaction threat!
    Tech: Saved! Natural 10.

AT THIS POINT, ALL CRUSADERS HAVE PURGED ONGOING EFFECTS.

    [Assassin]
Bhareg senses the incoming poison dart, and deflects it aside at the last moment.
    Tech: Miss!

    [Dracolisk]
The dracolisk leaps to the south, crushing another statue under its weight. Rearing back all three heads, it simultaneously projects its deadly gaze while breathing a second blast of acidic death!
Tech: Move: Around the zone, to the south of it.

    Standard: Triple Gaze
    Targets:
Bhareg: Hit! Immobilized (save ends) and will petrify (if save is failed).
    Hanar: Miss
Selvantis: Hit! Immobilized (save ends) and will petrify (if save is failed).

    Action Point! Breath Weapon (acid)
    Targets
Bhareg: Miss, 7 acid damage. Remain: 8 thp/27 hp.
    Hanar: 12, hit, 15 acid and ongoing 5 acid. Remain: 13 thp/9hp
    Selvantis: ???

(Selvantis - Will you boast to Kishar? Let me know and I will resolve this attack.)

    --- Crusaders Turn 3 ---
Hanar takes 5 ongoing acid damage, reducing him to 8 thp/9 hp.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hanar stoops and digs the heart out of the paladin. Things were starting to get a bit crazy. Standing, he activates another healing rune, this time directing the energy at himself.

Steeling his gaze, he steps in closer to the dracolisk. "Choke on this!" he yells, throwing the heart at one of the heads.

    OOC:
    Standard: Dig out heart
    Move: shift to H9.
Standard (action point) Feed heart to dracolisk.
Minor: Rune of Mending with Rune Destrouction: Hanar regains surge value of hp. All allies in a Burst 5 gain +2 power to damage rolls until the end of Hanar's next turn.

Free: Probably pass the extra heart off to Bhareg, if he wants it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. [Hanar]
The dracolisk, fed a second poison heart, reels in pain!
Tech: 50 points of damage. Dracolisk at critical levels! Hanar has one poison heart left.

    ReplyDelete
  50. [Selvantis]

As the dracolisk binds him with its gaze for a second time, the ranger takes a deep breath, clearing his mind. "Mother of beasts, matron of all who find solace in nature, may your wrath was over your child and leave me pure in your eyes." His heart steady and nerves steeled.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Nevdor, willing himself not to petrify, bounds forward to grab the heart from Hanar, gracefully sliding by, grabbing the heart, and tossing it up to the dracolisk..

    OOC:
Move through pillars to I9, grab heart, and TOSS IT LIKE A DWARF!

If that doesn't kill the dracolisk, I will continue the rest of my move action I10, then burn an AP to attack with piercing strike (+7 vs Reflex, 1d6+4), shift back to I9 after attack. Will boast to Kishar here as well! "Guide my blade lady of slaughter! From hells heart I stab at thee!"

  52. Hanar's surge spend brings him up to 18 hp and 6 surges.
