Crucible of the Gods: The Talisman of Glory

After Arden confirms that the warding aura has faded, and Tak-tha realizes that the strange feeling of paranoia has passed, the Thri-Kreen claims the Talisman of Glory!

A word, a name, comes to his mind as he takes a hold of it...

The Ruach...

What this Ruach is, he does not know, but somehow the name fills his heart with fear and dread.

The Ruach is death.

The utterance of the name strikes a chill fear into the ranger's bones.

"The Rua..." His tongue feels thick and sluggish, the word dying on his lips as if his body itself it loathe to repeat such a name. He swallows and shakes the fear from his mind. "We have our destiny... let us not balk at such a task." He looks to his comrades one by one. "Are we prepared?"

  3. OOC: Note, the Tablet of Wisdom is not the thing you found near the Kotaresh Trial. Instead it is a item that allows you to either:

    A. Draw two rumor cards immediately.
    -or-
    B. Verify the truth of one rumor card already in play.

  4. Hanar frowns, a chill coming over him.

    "As ready as ever."

Stowing his newly received treasure, the ranger turns towards the shimmering silver portal and steels himself before striding through, determined to prove his worth to the Gods and all those who would follow after.

Taking the silver portal from the Hidden Shrine, Selvantis finds himself once again in the Great Hub, standing near the three empty pedestals.

"Shall we return the skull to their previous homes? And what of the headless skeleton?"

The ranger lets out a breath he wasn't aware he'd been holding, turning to look for the silver portal. He turns, looking around at the hub for what he is certain will be the last time, marveling at the horror and beauty of it. He moves to the pedestals, standing beside the column the skull of Lyth had recently rested upon, his choice made for the skull to be placed into the carving.

  9. OOC: Oooh, shiny! And those bonuses almost completely cancel out the combat advantage! Hopefully this Ruach doesn't activate special effects against an enemy with CA

The feeling of paranoia and of it leaving are nothing compared to the terror of this mysterious name and yet the power in him from the talisman. Tak-tha places the talisman carefully around his neck and pockets yet another healing potion given to him by the gods. After a moment of quiet reflection, he follows the other ranger through the portal back to the main hub.

"Seems we have to choose a skull now. I doubt this will be a trivial choice, and based on the skull we choose, some aspect of that god will probably influence are final room. So, which god are we most willing to go up against?"

Cowed with the awesome power of the gods, that such powerful artifacts are distributed so matter-of-factly, Ashton follows the crusaders back through the portal.

Curious to the core, and itching to help out the group, Ashton closely examines the Tablet of Wisdom. He slides the glowing sigil labeled "Slide to unlock" and excitedly reads the results to his companions.

OOC: I choose two new rumors!

Unreliable Rumor: The mummy naga guarding Lyth's skull does not possess a jar of embalmbed catoblepas remains.

Reliable Rumor: All of the portals in the entrance hall lead to an ooze-filled cell from which there is no escape.

  12. OOC: Well, we already know the answers to those rumors. Getting back to the great hub and which skull to place in the archway, I vote for Lyth. I'm probably find with anything NOT Kishar. Who wants to face death AND slaughter at once?

  14. OOC: So that's two for Lyth. Anyone else want to put their 2¢ into the choice? If we ARE going to be facing an aspect of one of these gods then I think I'd rather face the aspect of nature, she/it might be a little easier to deal with than one of trickery, slaughter or firey-death-magic.

    1. OOC: Lyth sounds like a good option to me. Wait, what if the skull we pick is not included in the trial? Oh well, pick Lyth.

Arden says, "I need a moment to recover from the effects of our last fight. The effects of my failed boast to Kishar linger on and perhaps a short rest before we decide our next action will allow me to recover. I do not know if any difference will come of the skull we select, but Lyth seems a fine choice."

Tech: Arden takes a short rest.

Reverently taking the skull of Lyth and placing it onto the pedestal for safe-keeping, the ranger nods to Arden.

"Indeed, we should rest to our fullest before this trial. Gods alone know what awaits us and we have no recourse but to prevail." He turns to Ashton, their generous newcomer and furrows his brow in confusion. "You made mention of an elixer of healing?"

Tech: Short rest, weird gensai injections to be described by Ashton

  18. OOC: sure, let's take a short rest and then go forward. We are all agreed on using the Lyth skull? I see no clues to point us towards one or the others.

  19. OOC: Hanar will do a short rest. Surge value is at +2 of what's listed on the vitals tab, right? If that is true, he will burn 1 surge, putting him at 27 hp.
