Crucible of the Gods: The Pits of Bones

You see six skeletons pull themselves out of the pits (three from the east, three from the west). They all choose the southern ledge and do not seem to react as if they were mindless. Instead they gather in battle formations and attack your flank!

The three from the west move around to quickly swarm Arden with wicked longswords. Flanked by two, he can barely escape their deadly attacks.
Tech: Two hits, total of 8 damage. Arden now has 21 hit points.

The three from the east rush Ashton. Two draw longswords and the last a shortbow. The four other skeleton archers lining the pit to the east also now notice Ashton, and rain their arrows down. Aston's tunic is stained with his blood.
Tech: Dice were on fire, even with the superior cover Ashton had. Four bow hits and one sword hit for a total of 16 damage (and one of those was a natural 20!) Ashton is down to 14 hit points and is bloodied.

(ooc: map removed. check vitals tab for updated map...)

As you attempt to gain a hold of the situation, two new combatants enter the field. They are skeletons, but they do not climb out of the pit. Instead, they appear out of nothing, pull longswords and attack Tak-tha! And being discovered by the new skeleton swordsmen allows the archers from the west to take aim and fire at Tak-tha as well...
Tech: Tak-tha is hit twice by swords and once by bow for 11 total damage. He now has 10 hit points and is bloodied.

Ashton thinks he sees a shadowy figure north of the eastern pit, in the square just north of N1. It might even be a woman...?

OOC: Some of you have readied actions (if you stated it in your previous post), so I dished out the damage first and will let you take your readied action attacks now. Remember that your readied action must be a single standard action. Be sure to label in your post what your readied action attack is. If you manage to destroy a skeleton during that act, I may refund hp to those hit (since you might have stopped the skeleton before his attack.)

I believe then you would get your normal turn's worth of actions.
Good Luck! -MilwaukeeJoe

  1. OOC My readied action, probably targeting the skeleton between me and Arden at I9.

Tech: Readying Anvil of Battle +6 vs Fort 1d10 + 5 (+2 for boon) damage
On hit: Hanar gains resist 5 until end of next turn
Rune of Destruction Until the end of your next turn, whenever the target shifts, you or an ally adjacent to you can make an opportunity attack against it with a bonus to the attack roll equal to your Constitution modifier.

As the clattering bones assemble themselves, the ranger leaps into action, tumbling through the whizzing of arrows and bringing his blades down on the skeletons that advance against Tak-Tha.

Tech:Shift to H4, Move to H5 Acrobatics +3 to avoid any arrows heading his way, Twin Strike +7 vs Ac 1d8+6/1d8+6

Arden takes a step back from the skeletons to try and get a clearer view of the battlefield. He raises his orb and strands of green light jump from the orb entering the empty eye sockets of each of the skeletons before him.

Tech: Shift from I8 to H8. Cast Beguiling Strands (close blast 5) in the square bounded by I6,M10 attacks enemies in blast +6 vs. Will 5 psychic damage on hit (+2 boon damage). I'm assuming they will die on hit. If they don't die I can push each one hit up to 6 squares. I may take an Opportunity Attack from the skeleton at H9 I accept that.

OOC: if the readied actions totally rearrange the field before my attack I may retcon this but I'm not going to get another chance to look at this until late tonight.

    1. OOC: Arden, you may wish to redo your post. Hanar took out one skeleton, and Selvantis took out two. Looks like we cross-posted. Check the vitals tab for an up to date map. Positioning has changed since I "moved the map up" a little.

    2. Arden still gets a shot at 4 skeletons instead of 5 so he'll do it.

Tech (with updated map positions): Shift from I11 (eye eleven) to H11. Cast Beguiling Strands (close blast 5) in the square bounded by I9,M13 attacks enemies in blast +6 vs. Will 5 psychic damage on hit (+2 boon damage). I may take an Opportunity Attack from the skeleton at H12 I accept that.

  4. [Hanar]
Hanar's warhammer comes down on the nearby skeleton, crushing it to debris!
Tech: Indeed, they are minions. You gain resist 5 UENT. Also, Arden gets a refund of 4 hp, bringing him up to 25 hp. You still have a full set of actions this round.

    [Selvantis]
Stepping into the flank, the half-tiger Selvantis performs expert swordsmanship. When complete, the two skeletons are but bones on the floor.
Tech: Nicely done. You hit both and destroyed both!

    Vitals Tab Updated.

The ranger brings himself between the thrikeen and the additional skeletons, wheeling his blades into a defensive stance and keeping pace with his ranger brother to protect his flank.

Tech: Aiding Tak-Tha by protecting his flank, +2 to his AC, use remaining move action squares to keep pace when Tak-Tha moves.

The psychic onslaught is too much for the skeletons to bear, and in an instant Arden destroys four of them!
Tech: Four hits, four kills. And, since it's a close blast attack, no OA's incurred.

  7. Post sent to me via email, posting here to get it 'logged'.
    [Tak-tha]

Move to a location that lets Tak-tha: spend a minor to drop the flask on the bottom archer to the west, and charge the archer to the north of the east pit, making a jump over the corner of the bone pit.
If I draw the ire of the Ruach and would take damage, use the Resistive Formula effect to gain THP

  8. OOC: Looks like the only one left adjacent is next to Arden? Metagame to the max! Also, this posted Friday, but got eaten by Blogger? Weird.

    [Ashton]
The excitable genasi whirls his blade in the direction of Arden, just as several skeletons swarm half the party. A beacon of light, ala the Master Sword, shoots into Arden's robes, setting the nearest skeleton alight with force and slamming him back!

Suddenly surrounded himself, Ashton is amazed when green light spirals from Arden's orb and removed the threat before he can defend himself!

Tech: that's the readied action from last turn. Thundering Armor vs the one available target. Arden gets +1 power bonus to AC UENT. Attack is +4 vs Fort.

  9. Nevdor springs from his hiding spot, attempting to chop down the final skeleton before those archers put him in his sights.

    OOC:
I assume that hiding was my whole first round there, before the skeletons appeared. So I will move to G11 and strike down the final non-archer. Piercing Strike, +9 vs Reflex, (CA from hiding, I assume) 1d6+4+2d6 (Sneak attack like it matters).
