Crucible of the Gods: The Raising of the Portcullises

Cryptically, The Mummy Naga gives you a long look, just enough to make you wonder if you answered correctly. She doesn't answer you, but manages what you might calla smile and retreats back into the sarcophagus, pulling the lid closed.

At that moment, the two green portcullises both raise and retract into the ceiling. You chance a peek into the hallway beyond and see your next Divine Skull!

This one is similar to that of the others. A clay altar with a Divine Skull upon it. The Skull in engraved with the holy symbol of Lyth upon the forehead. The feeling of standing on holy ground is once again upon you.

OOC: Well done, dungeoneers. "Charon" was a correct answer, as well as his type of creature, the "Charonodaemon".

Good job and good luck! -MilwaukeeJoe

The quiet revenant looks at the skull, then looks pointedly at the beastly Tak-tha.

"My friend, I think perhaps you are our best hope for acquiring this skull." He looks down at his own blackened claws. "Although I believe I'd be an acceptable second."

OOC: is there anything else we know about Lyth? I'm just going off the handout. Religion, History +3 (and that's only because of the cool stuff we have).

  2. All Bhareg knows about Lyth is contained in the player handout.

  3. OOC: Why does my computer say that Angille commented on this thread over an hour before it was created???

    [Tak-tha]
Tak-tha nods in agreement as he approaches the skull. Prayers had appeased the other skulls, though his clutch had never been good with the religious stuff. All they really had was their post-hunt chants. "Strong we may be who hunt in your name, and though the blood of creatures powerful falls before us and flows in our bodies, we are still but beasts before you."

After Tak-tha says the prayer, Selvantis feels a strange pain in his hands. Looking down, he sees his hands are no longer half-elven, but bestial like a that of a tiger!

Others turn in response to see what's going on, but the moment passes as soon as it comes on. Selvantis' hands are back to normal. The pain vanishes, leaving you to wonder if that even happened...

Arden says "I'm glad you guys know your monsters. If we get a quiz on arcane reagents I'm your guy. Now let's see what this new room has to offer us". Arden sweeps the new area for arcane energies and seeing Selvantris' shocked look gives him the once over as well.

tech: Arcana +11 (thanks Agar-Sept) on the room and also on Selvantis.

The ranger reels slightly, unsettled by his vision. Mustering himself, and having taxed his knowledge of beast and creature, he finally takes a moment to inspect the room around himself. With the naga retreated and the skull in sight, he follows his Thri-keen companion into the antechamber, the familiar presence of Lyth surrounding him as the two rangers stride across hallowed ground.

Arden casts Detect Magic, and does not pick up any auras other than party EQ. Selvantis is not giving off any auras (than normal, EQ).

Hanar follows the rest of the group in, and ponders the chamber, wondering how they can appease the Beast God.

OOC: Religion +5, History +0 (ouch). What could we do to safely pick up the skull/appease the Beast God?

  9. OOC: If everyone is fine with it, Selvantis is going to try to take the skull. Be prepared to clear the blast area.

"Selvantris, you appear to have been anointed by Lyth, proceed."

Steeling himself, he flexes his normal-shaped hands once more before stepping forward and placing one on Tak-Tha's chitinous shoulder.

He takes a steadying breath and offers a weak smile at the Thri-Keen. "I think I am meant for this, be it good or ill. If this is where we part, it has been a fine thing to work along side you, brother."

He nods and pats his fellow ranger's shoulder before stepping towards the dais and placing his hands on the crystaline skull, trusting in the wisdom of Lyth as he lifts it from its resting place.
