After a cleansing breath, he tries the key in the keyhole. A gentle turn.... click!... the doors open freely!

| Death looks on (from the corner), awaiting the first mistake. |
Eight massive central pillars (black circles on map) inlaid with glittering crystals and precious gems support an arched ceiling high above. Diamonds and rubies glint off your torch light, stoking your averice.
To the left and right, potential exits from the chamber in the form of ascending staircases. Above each is a symbol. To your immediate right is Kotaresh; to the immediate left, Asar-Segt. You can't quite see beyond the huge pillars to know if the other gods are represented.
| View from the entrance, looking to the right. A symbol of Kotaresh is above the stairway. The hint of a mural can be seen, blocked by the gem-encrusted pillar. Click for a larger view. |
Down the center of the hall, you see three bone-white pedestals perhaps four feet tall (white circles on map), set in a triangular pattern. Even further, an unusual archway that seems to lead nowhere (blank stone wall), but flanked by colorful tapestries again showing the gods' holy symbols.
In the far corners, again hidden mostly behind the pillars, you can barely make out some large statues (stars on map). What they are, you're not certain yet. Finally, the east and west walls are covered in fading murals (not depicted on map), piquing your interest.
OOC: Those gods really like their symbols! Anyway, you can still do things in the Hall of Portals if you wish, or you can start to explore this chamber as well. I've heard from some of you so far, for the rest, get those posts in! The previous game players can attest, I kill off silent players' dungeoneers...
Good Luck!

Dervan waits for anyone else to enter the next chamber first before stepping in himself. The last one was positively boring. The glint of the gems cause him to raise his eyebrows. Those were interesting. He then begins to carefully scan for magical auras.
ReplyDeleteOOC: Arcana +12 check
[Tak-tha]
ReplyDeleteTak-tha lets out a soft buzz of relief when the doors swing open without incident. Satisfied with his inspection of the skeleton, he enters this new room along with the others, taking in the amazing sight before him. His attention is drawn to the east side of the room, walking between the wall and the column towards the mural.
Tech
Walk towards J9 unless something is detected along the way by the following checks
Perception +11, Nature +11, Dungeoneering +9
[Dervan]
ReplyDeleteCasting Detect Magic, Dervan is getting some strong transmutation magic off of the far dead-end archway (northern-most on map). He's also picking up scrying magic on the small trio of pedestals.
[Tak-tha]
Tak-tha arrives at the eastern mural, giving it a closer look. The mural animates when he approaches, like a moving picture. The scene is of an intense battle with many casualties. There are four main figures in the mural:
- a hooded shadow wearing an upside-down mask
- a nude, winged woman covered in crimson tattoos and emerald slime
- a six-armed ghoul shrouded by a cloud of ash
- a black-haired human woman in bloodstained plate mail
These four look straight at Tak-tha and all seem to be saying something over and over, but Tak-tha hears no words. The figures look very imposing, but they do not step out of the mural.
OOC: Vitals updated. I try to stay on top of that at all times. The Vitals tab is your "real-time" view of where you are and how close you are to death!
ReplyDeleteNevdor enters the room, wanting to examine the gems, but knowing they are on a mission to appease the gods, he musn't dare! He slowly stalks about the room, taking a look at each skeleton and pillar.
ReplyDeleteTech:
Walk into room and sweep in a counterclockwise fashion, circling the outside of the pillars. End movement back in G11.
OOC: And by taking a look, I mean I will search the skeletons. Nothing wrong with taking a gem thats not in the wall, right? (prays!)
ReplyDelete[Bhareg]
ReplyDeleteThe revenant steps in behind Nevdor and carefully watches the first three dungeoneers' reactions to the room. Paying little attention to the gems, except perhaps as possible pieces to a puzzle, the ascetic Bhareg makes his way directly down the center of the hall and stops within staff's reach of the three pedestals. Examining without touching, he looks to learn more about them.
OOC: This is partially assuming Dervan shares his findings, but I think that amongst the other investigations, Bhareg would still find the pedestals interesting. Perception +8, Thievery +9. Embarrassingly, Arcana/History/Religion +0.
