Revenge of the Iron Lich: OOC 2

Every game has an Out-of-Character (OOC) thread so you can strategize and plan, as well as for me to give out out-of-character news. Talk and discuss, tell us about non-game stuff, etc.

Nothing here is ever considered to be "in character" (IC). Also, as fair arbiter of the game, I will not unfairly use revealed player strategy against you.

  1. I think once the key is complete it will be able to provide a 'haste' bonus to whoever holds it. The runes on the key imply generic enchantment and very specifically 'haste', so it's worth a shot if our rouge can blitz through this room, avoid the giants and grab the loot, right?

    1. That would be interesting. What sorts of bonuses/invisibility options do I have before I go in?

I'm assuming the obelisk contains the promised treasure? I'm willing to bet it has some lock or other seal on it that won't be easily opened.

I like the idea of getting those giants into the pits. Hopefully possible!

Those spike formations scare the shit out of me.

  2. BuddyDnD, in regards to the bladesong and charge:

    1. You can first up the bladesong (minor action) before the charge.
    or
    2. You can use bladesong if you spend an action point after the charge.

Bladesong is not a basic melee attack, so it's not something you can do as a part of the charge.

    1. Joe, I meant in regards to my free action at-wills...the ones that trigger after I hit with a MBA. Not the blade song power itself.

  3. Alright, I talked to Joe to ask about the effects of the Circlet of Clairvoyance. He said that if we use it on the obelisk, we would be able to see anything on the surface of it as well as inside it. I think we should do this before I head in.

Essentially, I want to prevent a scenario where I get to the obelisk, realize there's a lock or similar on it, can't open it, then get smashed to a pulp by the giants. Alternatively, if there's nothing in it, then we shouldn't bother with going to it and potentially provoking the giants.

If we decide to go to the obelisk, I can cover enough ground (speed 7) to get near to it with 1 move action. At which point I have a standard and an action point left if I need to get out of trouble before the invisibility wears off. I would bring the key in case that's needed to open it, which is my guess since I think the giants killed the marilith.

What do you guys think? I can don the circlet and use it while invisible from the small pathway across the ravine. Or one of you guys can do it from the pathway.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Sounds like a solid plan that doesn't get us killed. Hanrar will take the circlet and use it on the obelisk if no-one else posts within the next few minutes. Gods speed, Princess Teryn.

    1. Sounds good to me! Except that you have to sustain my invisibility with your standard, right?

      Delete
  5. Good point... Someone else take over clairvoyance while I make sure this changeling stays 'predatored'?

    1. Princesses are so demanding, right?

      Delete
    2. Yursil can help with that.

      Delete
    3. Go for it! If you use the circlet to create a burst 5 centered on K12, you don't have to move out into the room any further than H2. Plus you can use arcana to check the obelisk for magical traps, as well as inspect the far giant closely.

      Delete
  6. Holy crap, that's a jackpot. What say I sneak over there, do as much looting as I can with that bag of holding, while everyone else runs interference on those giants? No reason to fight them if we get out with the treasure. No way they'll fit through the small corridor back to the cobblestone pathway...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. And I'll volunteer my tanglefoot bag to keep one of those giants out of the equation for one turn!

      Delete
    2. Almost forgot, Brathu has a greater necklace of fireball as well, so if Teryn tanglefoots the far one, the rest of us can either charge the nearer giant or bombard him with spells/etc....
I can also knock an attacker prone with my shields ability. So I say go for the cache, and we'll deal with the giants as we need too!

      Delete
    3. Ballsy. I like it! Let's do this thing.

  7. Anyone else get the sense that we now have two pieces of mithril machinery that we'll have to use later on in the dungeon somewhere?

To that end, can we get a detailed description of the mithril rendering from the Tomb of the Iron Kings?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The rendering is a piece of wall-art. A metal skull with helm, but mostly 2D.

  8. Should push come to shove [hah!] the first thing i'm doing is push the giant closest to us into the chasm. If we can immobilize the other giant and just wail on him we should be able to drop him before the other can get out and team up on us.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Crusaders, I will be adding your new treasures to the treasures tab. Will you do anything with the box? And, which way next?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I have updated the treasures tab. On Friday, I'm removing any of the corpse items. It's cluttering up my display.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Let's divide up these new items. The ring of the iron golem seems great for a defender type. That wand is crazy powerful; does one of the magi want to take it? I wouldn't mind the ring of drain resistance since I'm the party scout, but it would also be useful on some of the lower-surge members of the party. I think Teryn is pretty much invincible if she wears it, with the princess buff from the deck of mortals. :P

We should probably be prepared to offer up one of these rings for the wraith phalanx captain, in the case that that rumor is true. Unless someone else has a less-valuable magic ring!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Unless Yursil wants it, Hanrar can use the wand. Not like my +19 arcana is doing crap for me.

      Delete
    2. Hanrar can take the wand. I think Yursil would like the Boots of Levitation. His current shoes aren't quite as useful.

      Delete
    3. Works for me. Hanrar wand, Yursil boots. I've got magic shoes anyways. :D

      Delete
  12. Be sure to post any claims in the treasures tab, so I'm not confused on who gets what.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Password? Damnit! We probably missed something...chances it's related to his paladin past? That's pretty much all the clues I think we've gotten for now....and I bet there's a timer on this too! Think quickly lads, or I may just shout out something paladin-y

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My guess is that you're on the right track. Judging by everything we've seen so far, our lich is pretty wistful of his former life. The carefully preserved painting of the lady, the statues of paladin-y warriors seen so far, the nice banners in the hypostyle.

Do we know anything else about these paladins or stormhold? Or the lady? Has everyone made history checks on them?

      Delete
    2. You can attempt history checks on stormhold and connections with Khaldun if you wish.

      Delete
  14. I think I got everything handled. Post is out, vitals updated, treasures updated, summary tab updated. I even bumped this OOC to the top of the posts. If I missed anything, let me know.

BTW, starting a side blog, a weight loss journal:
    genconfightingweight.blogspot.com

I'm looking to lose 10% of my current weight by Gencon!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Neat! Except that the vitals tab says Teryn has 7 of 9 surges, when it should be 7 of 7.

Good luck on your fighting weight!

  15. Go ahead and cast, I was thinking of using salzacas to carry a torch into the room and see if we can illuminate it further. I guess I could also puppet him to pick up and drop the torch, as a trap detector...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Okay, first things first, it looks like we're about to get reamed, but lets play this smart. Those catapults are going to be bad news no matter what they're chucking, so lets take those out first. Joe said the supports can be knocked out with a DC 31 athletics check and a standard action. Maybe we can use some powers on those as well, like a charge attack or something with a seismic impact of some kind, like a burst push power. Otherwise we're going to have to find some way up there. Hopefully Hanrar just got this guy stuck where he is, so we can have a round to take out these catapults so we can focus on destroying the golem.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep, I'm going to try to get up there and do some work on those things.

I'm not sure if this is the best use of it, but we should disintegrate the shit out of a column to get an advantage. Alternatively, use it on the golem. It's so much damage...

      Delete
    2. Burning a charge isn't a bad idea...especially as a minor action. Don't know what those catapults throw, hopefully the golem isn't 100% resistant to it though...we may get some inadvertent help there...for amprice

      Delete
    3. Well, if both my attacks just hit that's potentially 72 points of damage plus slowed, immobilized and taking poison. I'll turn the wand on one of those columns next turn if I can.

      Delete
  17. Where do you think is a good spot to move this golem? Is there anyone in the party that would prefer it in melee range?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thinking about using my AP for paladins Judgement (its a daily), another 3W attack and I could let Vesten spend a surge...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well, looks like I got the combat I was asking for dudes!

I'm gonna activate shield for now, and charge in. Dazzling Sunday is radiant and gives him another -2 to attack rolls!

Unless we want to radiant damage him, I could drop prismatic burst to blind him...thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well he's resistant to necrotic damage from what we've seen, so radiant sounds like a solid path to take. Hey, Joe, what's the official initiative on this? I know Hanrar got an action before everyone else, when can he go again? After everyone has gone or was that a free/surprise round?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. To be honest, I no longer have the exact numbers on initiative rolls. All I needed to do is to see who beat the Golem. Only you did, so you went... then the golem went (plus catapults)... and now everybody can go (including you). There was no surprise round.

      Delete
    2. Awesome, so once everyone else has gone, Hanrar is going to throw down again... from afar of course.

      Delete
    3. You don't have to wait. In this pbp style, you go when you post. Post now if you like.

    4. You're the bossman. Number one, ready the magic missiles.

Aye sir, magic missiles locked and ready.

      ....

      .

      Fire

      PEW PEW

      Delete
  21. Damnit, Dufrain! Resist radiant too? Well, I will wait for Vestens to go, then spend my AP and give him a surge. We've dealt well over a 100 to the golem for now, gotta keep at him.

Thinking my next move will be to drop a gtr fireball on him....

    ReplyDelete
  22. Okay, if we've dealt over 100 points of damage to the golem and he's STILL not bloodied, maybe we should focus on disabling the catapults first? It'll be easier to break the golem down at the knees without bodak heads raining down on us. Next it'll be diseased cows and then a giant wooden badger.

    Bloody frenchmen.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I *could* use my AP to nail the golem with a tanglefoot bag. On hit, it would immobilize him for one turn guaranteed and slow him for the next. That would give everyone one round to try to disable some catapults. Meanwhile the melee people could get out of that zone. Thoughts?

      Delete
  23. Considering I posted rather late yesterday for the golem, I will give you guys until Monday night to post player actions. That will account for today and the holiday weekend.

But, come Tuesday morning, it's golem time!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm back from the big holiday weekend, where I worked hard on house remodels and landscaping and all that. Back to some D&D! I will be working through posts today.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The deadline for current player combat posting is Noon CST, Thursday, 05/31/2012.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Andrew, Brathu will take the teleport away. I need to surge and was thinking of dropping my gtr fireball on the golem. Currently at 3 hp, so distance is a plus so I don't go down this round and suffer this damn aura.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well, that's far from the worst of what I was expecting...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Better late than never... Vesten is at full HP and down to 5 healing surges. Vesten, if you would rather be unconscious or somewhere less than full hp, let me know.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Teryn, you're still at 79 of 100 hp and at full surges. Do you wish to use one to bump yourself up to full hp?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was thinking about it and I think it's best to save them until I really neat them. Thanks to the princess buff, I can fight until my negative bloodied value. But if I spend surges while negative, my HP starts at zero. Which means I have some free HP to work with, basically. So I'll wait and see what happens!

      Delete
  30. We have an unreliable rumor that says that the wraith phalanx captain can be bribed with a magic ring! It might be worth trying... I've got a ring...anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have the ring of the iron golem...would rather not part with it as a test, though. Damn, why doesn't one of us have a grace ring or something lame? Actually, thinking about it, maybe the ring of iron golem is better to get rid of. I can't run or shift with it (plus that ghoul stench is still on me). I will offer him the ring, if he takes it, GREAT. If not, blades out. I have the resist necrotic, hopefully that spells me for the remainder of Brathu's existence.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks for your ring sacrifice. Teryn owes you one, you can count on it!

      Delete
  32. I think that ring of the iron golem is the best bet. Yursil doesn't own any rings. The only other ring we have is one of drain resistance. I think that's a super valuable ring in this place.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hanrar doesn't have any rings either. I thought I'd picked one up of +1 protection but my memory lied. Should push come to shove, I can drop down another daily or two on this guy to try to get him as fucked up as possible, but hopefully we can bypass combat with this nasty looking fellow so we can save our daily attacks for the big bad.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Um, wow. That was close.

How hard would it be to retrieve the object that Yursil just spied out? I'm guessing we need those to open the door.

    ReplyDelete
  35. In order to get a pyramid object, you will need to jump inside a block. This requires a readied action and a DC 24 Athletics and/or Acrobatics check.

If successful, you move up to your speed and leap inside, allowing you to grab the pyramid object within as a free action. You then shift into an unoccupied square outside of the trap's area of effect.

If the check is unsuccessful, you are crushed by the closing wall trap for 5d8+16 damage, and then pushed into the nearest safe unoccupied square.

    ReplyDelete
  36. There's some confusion about the trap blocks. They are back in place in the wall. They thrust outward, stayed for a second, then retracted.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Okay, there are six of us, and it looks like the walls are going to be in 2x2 sections. We should be able to cover all our bases if we set up positions at F15, J15, A14, A10, B3 and H2. We should take positions and prepare to leap and grab these stones. We'll probably need the three from the door, unless they all have different symbols on the sides. Are the indentions on the door the same size as the pyramids? We might have to 'make' the symbols from multiple pyramids.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yes, the indentations are the same size as the pyramids.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yursil's biggest bonus is a +10. That's over a 50% chance for Yursil to take quite a bit of damage. I don't know if that's quite worth the risk.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Great, so we should only need the three from the door. Keep on your toes everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You can see the block trap sketch here.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What's wrong with us hiding inside the block?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think the block part slides 'out' of the wall, so it's like a big squared off 'C'. So while there is an alcove in there, it gets smooshed back against the wall when it closes.

    ReplyDelete
  44. So.... no replies means everyone is cool with my idea? Who's going to be where? I'll stick at A10 since Hanrar is already there, we just need to spread out to be able to beat this thing and GTFO before we wind up as overburnt marshmallows.

    ReplyDelete
  45. If no-one else wants to take watch on the stair, Hanrar can, I've got an instant that will allow me to 'port out of the way should I almost get squarshed.

    ReplyDelete
  46. FYI, I'm on vacation tomorrow. It's more of a "watch the kids" kind of day, but we're going to pick strawberries in the morning. My posting pattern might be off because of it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well, Teryn can fly for the next while, so how about I cover the whole northern half of the room? At square E5 I can see the symbol inside each block in the northern half, and with my +19 acrobatics, I think it's a pretty good bet I'll be fine. The southern half can be covered by the rest of the group, with perhaps the ones with low acrobatics/athletics skill taking refuge in the corner safe zones.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Between getting ready for tomorrow's "Fane of the Heresiarch" run and the rigours of house, wife and kids, I have no time for a post until Monday. Expect my post then!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Back from my vacation weekend. Fane of the Heresiarch playtest went VERY well. I will be posting for Iron Lich over lunch break today!

    3. Now this is just absolutely unacceptable. How dare your employer deprive us of our daily allotted dose of vitamin D&D4? Don't worry, we'll be here.

  51. Interesting development dudes, door not open? Well shit. I might have to follow Deuce's lead here, how much more would we have to do in this room?

    1. Think we're going to have to jump for it. I don't see any reason to stay. I also think the probability of BAD STUFF happening if we tarry is high.

  52. Tricky riddle.

What I understand is that one of the statements is true.

    1: IN the bronze chest
    2: NOT the silver chest
    3: NOT the bronze chest.

If the first statement is true we get:

IN the bronze chest, IN the silver chest, IN the bronze chest.

If the second statement is true we get:

NOT the bronze chest, NOT the silver chest, IN the bronze chest (can't be both in and not in).

If the third statement is true we get:

NOT the bronze chest, IN the silver chest, NOT the bronze chest.

I have no idea of the significance of the statue. Perhaps it means that the gold chest is trapped?

I'm guessing the treasure is in the silver chest.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Just didn't want to write it all out. We basically have a 50/50 shot with this logic, and I am pretty confident about it. So I'll volunteer Brathu. No chance we have a stone/metal to flesh spell?

      Delete
    2. Yep, I'm 100% with Andrew and Deuce here.

    1. I think you can here in the OOC thread. What do you think of the puzzle?

      Delete
    2. Sure, go for it. Lurkers can post here.

    3. I just wanted to throw out the idea that maybe each chest has to be opened but in a specific order, and the riddle states the order:

THE TREASURE IS IN THE BRONZE CHEST - Open bronze first
THE TREASURE IS NOT IN THE SILVER CHEST - Open gold second
THE TREASURE IS NOT IN THE BRONZE CHEST - Open silver last

Everyone seemed to be stuck on the truth/lie idea, but the fact two statements automatically cancel each other out made me think in a different direction.

      Delete
    4. Interesting idea. A sequence instead of just one. I was going to concur with 50/50 idea, but I think we might want to consider this.

      Delete
  54. Yeah, my gimp2 skills are amateur, and my copper chest looks like gold. I was just shooting for three different-looking chests.

    1. Chests look plenty different.

@A1, if this were a lever puzzle, I could see that being a possibility. But I think this is an all or nothing sort of shell game. Pick the right box, treasure, pick the wrong one, DOOOM.

    2. Doomey-Doom-Doom or just doom?

      Also, will chainsaws be provided?

    4. A modern fourthcore adventure set in the Doom universe, played through PBP and using Doom2 screenshot graphics. You bet there will be chainsaws. And BFGs. Maybe I'll work this up someday.

    5. Step 1: See if anyone else is doing anything like this, and shamelessly steal from them... I mean, um, emulate their efforts.

      Delete
    6. My mind started working on a fourthcore weapon: a scythe that throws balls of energy a la the BFG...

      Delete
    7. My original D&D:BFG was the 'Nature's Vengence' crossbow. On a nat20 critical hit the bolt became a burst weapon dealing damage to all in a 15' radius and forcing the main target to make a save vs death or be disintegrated. The best part was it didn't look like a magical weapon until you scored a crit, just some old beat-up light crossbow that radiated a faint magic aura.

      Delete
    8. Terrifying. I love it. How about a Mortor that shoots chainsaws tied together? Especially if they spin and create a zone effect...

      Delete
    9. OR: A dwarven sentry launcher! It can fire a bronze 'piston' from a shoulder cannon that impales itself in the ground and uses clockworks to unleash either bolts or darts in all directions or has blades that pop out and spin down its length at buzz-saw speed!

Barring that just a big cannon that fires drunk, angry dwarves.

Alright, if Hanrar dies I'm totally making an artificer with crazy inventions.

      Delete
    10. The whole idea of Star Wars Team Deathmatch (using Saga) has totally been brewing in the back of my head. A SagaCore adventure in Doom/Quake style is only a short step away from that.

      Delete
  55. Excellent! I was really scared for a moment when Joe went with the misdirection hash tags. If people don't mind, I'd love the wings of wrath, a flying paladin would be cool. Does anyone not have a mask and plan on NOT standing near anyone? I already have ghoul stench on me, This could ensure my "forever alone" status...Otherwise, I say someone holds it but doesnt wear it, the fire damage would be a pain for the rest of us.

Oh, and that scroll...if we stun the lich, it's our golden ticket!

    ReplyDelete
  56. If only Tak-Tha were still with us...those bracers would be dynamite on him.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They are a good Upgrade for my current bracers, and I do plan on charging often after activating my bladesong. The mask would be cool too, I'd at least go down in a blaze of glory.

      Delete
    2. Heck yeah I would have loved those bracers. Give him the wings as well and you would have a buzzing, stinging insect flying around all over the place.

      Delete
  57. I'd love to have those wings. Also, Whispers of the Edifice?! That could definitely come in handy later on (could have come in handy already, actually).

    ReplyDelete
  58. Anyone object to Hanrar taking the amulet of false life? He could use a boost to his saves since if he fails one HE DIES.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Paul, you have a good point there. Take the amulet. Jeremy, you might as well have the wings, chances are you'll live a bit longer with them on. Do you have any strong ranged attacks? I will take the mask of the balor. Then no-one is coming near me ever again. Joe, I take it nots possible to have the mask hang off, a la a samurai mask, it's on full-time? If that's the case, I'm bringing up the rear from now on.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Lurker post from Tak-tha's spirit (via email):
Could you remind the dungeoneers that there were emeralds in eyes in the room Tak-tha fell?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Did we remember to take those? I bet we didn't...

    ReplyDelete
  62. That would be a nice big negatory. I think we figured the damn things were trapped, leaking viscous fluid as they were I can't blame us.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah...I'm not so hot on taking those. Gems that cry oil? If we have evidence we need them, then we can go back.

      Delete
    2. Aaaactually, I don't think we can. As far as I know we're on a one-way path, there wasn't a door back into the crispy-spike pit back in the treasure chamber.

      Delete
  63. Yeah, I don't remember grabbing them. Plus, I don't see how we can go backwards. We don't know where we are in relation to the rest of the dungeon, and only one way forward. This is no good. I fear we've gone too far. Maybe that's why no has ever completed the dismal deseent room...and we only have two pieces of wraithsverge.

    ReplyDelete
  64. If you think we should keep trying stuff before we push on, speak now[like within the next five minutes of so] or forever hold your dice.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Probably best to wait until we have 4 emeralds to try putting them into the eye sockets. I think the bleeding gems were our best bet.

    ReplyDelete
  66. OKAY, so after a bit of deliberation, I’ve found a way past the door to the east. Vesten, Hanrar needs the circlet of clairvoyance to see past the door to the east. Once he has a visual, he’ll blink past and open the door from the other side so we can try to explore the rest of this tomb before we face these damned stairs.

    ReplyDelete
  67. To keep things going, I'm going to assume that Vesten allows this. Feel free to post your attempt.

I will then post the next chapter over my lunch break.

However, if Vesten does reject this (which is fine, it's his circlet), we can retcon the bypassing of the door and you will have to proceed in a different direction.

  68. This sounds like a good idea...and has Nightcrawler written all over it.

  69. VERY nice find. This is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for but couldn't come up with it. *cheer*

  70. Joe helped me, I offered blind teleporting through the door with a chance of getting stuck in the wall, and he said 'You CAN see through the door if you try...' and then all the lightbulbs went off power surge style.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Nice idea!

Would any power that grants teleporting work? Yursil has an encounter power that lets him teleport 3 squares as well as another that lets him and an ally teleport to space within a certain burst area.

  72. Were there any rumors about the pyramid? I'm vaguely remembering something...

    Here we go:
Reliable: The eye of the four-armed iron golem souldriver is the key to opening the steelsun pyramid.

I think we've proven another reliable rumor false. Who has the eye from that golem that we fought?

      [Hanrar]
After throwing the switch, you hear a distant rumbling from the northeast.

Then Hanrar says out loud, as if somebody else was controlling him for a few seconds, "A PYRAMID HAS OPENED IN THE TEMPLE OF EXTINCTION."

  73. We didn't bring it, we left it in the room with the golem. put it into the door. Didn't something mention a pyramid when we pulled that lever?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yeah, we left the ruby there. Man, we really need to go back and slap ourselves....

Lets backtrack now and see if we can find the silver maw of battle for the last segment of wraithverge. Must be a place we missed or bypassed somehow.

Also, how do we find a phylactery we can't see? HOW?!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Vitals and Summary tabs updated.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Treasures tab updated. I think I'll all up-to-date on that stuff now.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Hanrar, you want to grab the segment of wraithverge from the trial of chests? Since you've got the first one already?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Sure I suppose, It makes sense to keep these things in one place. I'll post on the treasures tab.

  78. As the paladin and therefore fun-killer extraordinaire, I think we shouldn't do this. It's obviously has unseen benenfits, but we don't know the negatives. Things come with a PRICE. esepcially in fourthcore. I'm not taking part, that's for sure. And if I have to put your PCs down later on, it's going to suck being the non-lich of the party

At least there would be two of us to put the rest of them down.

  79. You damn lich kids, stop playing that beiber crap and get a job! I have a lich to kill.

    Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Haha, while you guys resolve this lich-coffin thing, I wanted to lay out our plan for the next bit. Since I have a strong feeling the lich is on the other side of that spectral stairway, it looks like we're missing 1 piece of wraithverge. Given this, we should try everything we can before we cross the stairs. So Teryn wants to go collect the rubies from the portal in the great hall and the crying emeralds from the king-tablet-cloudkill room, eyes being a big thing in this adventure, it seems. Then we can at least fill the empty eyesockets in the ornate hallway. Because there's clearly something going on there.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh, I also meant to say we should retrieve the emeralds in the skull from the Fane of Sight. Since I asked Joe and I don't think the rubies fit in the busts in the ornate hallway.

      Delete
    2. Well since Hanrar is about to become hostis publicus for all the Raven Queen's servants here, make sure you get all of the eyes you can find, don't forget the ones in the eye-mural room. And please do me the favor of watching my back for zealous blades when we're in the middle of the fight. :P

      Delete
    3. Haha, you got yourself into this mess. ;)

      Delete
    4. Meh? Remember, Hanrar is Lawful Evil, He'll just save a couple of dailies or a couple of charges in the wand of disintegration and bite the 100 point cost for surviving. Or, hell, just haul ass. I can teleport 9, run 8 and then blink 5 in one round. Think they'd be able to catch up? ;)

      Delete
  81. We need to go collect those gems, and find this silver maw of battle that holds the last piece of wraithverge. Once we find the great hall again, we should be set.

    1. Aren't those the BEST mini-vacations? Drink lots of water and welcome back to the grind.

    2. Sounds like a good time. I think the basic gist of where we left off is:

Hanrar is a lich, I don't trust him, and looks like no one else wants to join the lich club. We move through the western doors, ignoring the portals.

      Delete
    3. Its a wonder you trusted Hanrar in the first place.

      Delete
    4. He's got it down though, we're moving back into "The Great Hall"

      Delete
  83. Wait, so Hanrar. If you're a lich, what's your phylactery?

    ReplyDelete
  84. I don't have one, I think you only make one if you go through the whole process. Hanrar is more of an artificial lich.

    ReplyDelete
  85. What! You get all the benefits of being a lich without the primary drawback?

Joe, can we get a ruling on this? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  86. Some things just remain secrets. That's all I can say.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Interesting. Thinking for this one-shot it doesn't matter.

The oculus is...brutal. Like the eye of vecna even. The most mobile of us should have that, we're going to have to make a B-line for it the second it's in sight.

As for wraithverge, my hands are full. Who doesn't have a shield/need a hand free?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, Teryn is highly mobile, but we can decide as a group who it's best on. I'm willing (eager, even), but that leaves me at two healing surges. Ring of drain resistance helps with that, but still, it's a risk.

      What do you guys think?

      Delete
    2. It is quite a gamble. Yursil can rearrange allies once an encounter. Whenever he hits someone that is cursed, he can teleport. And he has a teleporting encounter power. Could definitely be useful if he needs to bypass someone/something.

Although the princess can move much faster.

      Delete
    3. This makes a lot of sense. Seems like if we find the phylactery first, we wouldn't even have to fight the Iron Lich. (I don't think Sersa would have designed it that way, but stranger things have happened.)

Also, I suspect our false lich is now tied to the Iron Lich's phylactery. Destroying it will destroy Hanrar, too.

      Delete
  88. Ok, what I need is some posts in the main section. Who's going to "install" the occulus, where you are going next, and what you are doing there. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Wow, I come back from a shitty day dealing with backed up plumbing pipes and I find us in the final battle? This looks like one hell of a final fight! A congregation of liches, a necrolith? F%&^ that. Who has that gear from earlier? We never figured out its function, did we? PLEASE tell me its a lodestone against liches!

I am thinking Brathu will take up a defensive position to tank the golem (lets see if that ends well), buff up with some THP, throw a greater fireball, and ready myself for the pain thats coming. Anyone have a spell/ability to slow the golem or prone it? We should try to chew up its actions like the souldriver from beforehand.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Paul, think its worth using the scroll of imprisonment on the necrolith? I aimed to daze it, should buy us some time.

    ReplyDelete
  91. It's worth a shot if nothing else. If we can disable it or get it at least down for a round we can try it. I'm willing to bet that the lich is hiding somewhere and this is just his devious version of a shield guardian.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Andrew, that can't be the phylactery, Hanrar saw one too. Don't blow the eye's daily on it. Keep looking!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Of course! I'm going to keep looking. There's still 2 more alcoves. I wonder if there's supposed to be something inside the orbs.

  93. I'm not worried about the nat 20s, Brathu will get his chance. Gotta feel the necrolith out, it's not like I have 200 hp play with here...

  94. That aura is going to make it tough for me to get in there and do my normal dash in dash out thing.

Can anyone put a status effect on this guy that grants combat advantage? If not, I won't be able to do sneak attack damage this turn. :(

    1. It's still blinded from buddy's prismatic attack. Does that help?

Also, I'm about to charge in, if he hits me in melee, I can prone him as an interrupt.

  95. Gonna hold my post until Teryn and Hanrar's actions post, I wanna see if the golem is moved etc. Right now, I have two radiant powers lined up for the vorpal sword of croodle. Also, will activate my skalds aura, this necrolith isn't messing around and we may need the healing.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Hey, Andrew, Yursil should get to the alcoves with Hanrar so we spellcasters can team up and pound this damn thing from under cover while the strikers soften him up. We're the soft fleshy targets, or, well actually dry and rather dessicated ones, but still we're easy targets.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Buddy, Hanrar's Charm of Misplaced Wrath is going to move the Necrolith to occupy G11/H11, you might want to pick someplace else to 'port to.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Bjorn, no doubt Vesten can get in there to flank next round. Trying to stay spread out so is thing can't target us with some burst or blast ability.
