| The walls here are corroded and buckling, and the groaning of metal regularly pierces the otherwise heavy silence. |
You're standing in a hallway leading east. At its end is another set of double doors that are open wide... and beyond them a large chamber with dozens of rusting iron pillars supporting a broad, flat ceiling 30' overhead.

| You enter the chamber at J6/J7. |
At the chamber's center, A 10' wide by 10' tall black steel pyramid rises from the floor. Rivets dot its surface. You see something circular floating at the pyramid's center, but you're not sure what it is from this distance.
OOC: Still working on the big picture map, will get it out soon! Note, there are southern doors that lead further on.

OOC: Folks, that was brilliant, by the way.
ReplyDelete[Hanrar]
ReplyDeletePride overwhelms caution for a moment as the mage walks confidently into the room, replacing his skull-shaped half mask as he brandishes his staff, energy crackling from the molded gold and silver head.
A grin spreads across his lips as he carefully steps towards the columns, his eyes darting back and forth, wary of any movement as he examines the hieroglyphics, searching his memory for any reference of such strange beings.
Tech: Move to K7, Perception +10, Arcana +19, History +19, Religion +19, Perfect Recall
And Joe, thanks so much!
[Yursil]
ReplyDeleteYursil's face shows the barest hit of a smile as the door is opened. He walks behind the mage, keep his eyes open. He pauses just before entering the chamber. He wasn't quite sure it would be safe to step into there.
Tech: Moving to J7. Arcana +15, Perception +13 on the area.
[Hanrar]
ReplyDeleteHanrar realizes that the figures in the images are not one race, but many races. He even recognizes one of them, a race of humanoids called the Amberites. You recall that they were decimated, obliterated as a race by a weapon known as the Khopesh of Extinction.
[Yursil]
Yursil's connection to the magical realm is blocked here.
Tech: Natural 1.
[Hanrar]
ReplyDeleteStaying on his toes, the Shadar-Kai steps gingerly between the corroded columns and makes his way towards the steel pyramid, curious about the floating disk near its center. Feeling quite vulnerable in the confined spaces between the closely set columns, he brings to mind a quick incantation, allowing power to boil into his blood as he moves forward, ready to release it at a moments notice.
Tech: Move to N6, ready Ebony Razors should anything attack
FYI, I should have stated this earlier... but I do not allow readying attacks outside of combat. Crusaders are always assumed to be watching themselves and being wary.
DeleteOOC: Alright, I'll just imagine that Hanrar is wandering through a grid of rusty columns with flecks and wisps of shadow floating around his hands and coiling in his wake.
Delete[Teryn]
ReplyDeleteTeryn calls out from her slackjawed position near the newly opened door, "Ok. That. Was. Awesome. If we get out of this, Hanrar, I'm going to buy you as much booze as you want at this place I know in Sigil. I was *not* looking forward to squaring off against this guy just yet." And then, recovering her normal demeanor: "Alright, now we're back to a place where I can do what I do better than anyone." Teryn moves forward quickly through the group to catch up to the mage, eager to explore the pyramid, hands hovering over her sheathed daggers.
Move to N7, inspect (Perception +17) the pyramid. Is it open/closed? The voice said we "opened" the pyramid here; what's inside?
OOC: Holy smokes that was some good thinking to get us outta that pickle. If the other door leads back to the main chamber, we should head back and get all the gems we can. We have two from the mithril skill, right? The others are the ones crying blood in the chamber with the kings, and then the big rubies in the main chamber.
OOC: No, the mithril skull is only an art rendering, I think we need to go back to the 'eye' room and pick up the one we left in there. If we can find our way back, it'll be a trek but I think we can manage.
Delete[Teryn and Hanrar]
ReplyDeleteThe two of you search your way forward, right up to the pyramid. It is indeed open, and the object you saw is floating within.
It's an amulet in the shape of the fiery sun. As far as you can tell, no traps or magic auras are keeping you from taking it.
[Teryn]
ReplyDelete"Well, this room is your victory, so I figure you should take it. Meanwhile, I'm going to check these out. After all, we've got some gems to retrieve." Giving Hanrar a wink of congratulations, Teryn moves off towards the south doors and inspects them closely.
Move to the southern doors, inspect them for traps, locked/unlocked, and method of opening. If Teryn finds nothing of note, she will open the doors.
[Hanrar]
ReplyDeleteStepping forward, he reaches out a gloved hand and grasps the amulet by its floating chain, pulling it away from its resting spot in the center of the pyramid. He takes a moment to admire it before slipping the emblazoned sun into his belt pouch, searching the area for any other overlooked treasures or clues to what purpose this room served beyond housing the amulet. He then joins Princess Teryn at the southern passage, aiding her search for traps of either mechanical or arcane nature.
Perception +10, Arcana +19, anything else of interest in this room? Are there runes or markings on the pyramid or pillars?
Bringing up the rear, Brathu enters the room as slowly as the rest, keeping an eye turned back to the door Hanrar freed us from.
ReplyDeleteOOC: Perhaps that switch we threw earlier cleared this room out? Otherwise, I doubt the treasure would be so easy to grab, based on the rooms description. Grab it Paul, and lets try to backtrack even more.
"Whew!, glad we got around that. Perhaps we have found the liches lair. But lets be prepared before we enter my fellows". As the rest of the group is focused on the pyramid and the shiny item, El-Kal is going to search the area and check the door leading away from here. "Grab it and lets go! Time is starting to run short."
ReplyDeleteOOC: Move to O12, Dungeoneering +13, Perception +16, Arcana +17 on the door.
Man, good thinking Paul et al. Was afraid we were going to be stuck on that cliff for a while and have no other choices.
The adventure continues with the Crypts of Iron.
