Crucible of the Gods: Return to the Great Hub

After passing through the silver portal with the Divine Skull of Kotaresh, you find yourselves standing once again in the Great Hub, very near the three bone-white pedestals.

Two figures approach, and for a moment you suspect a trap... but then you realize they are replacements from the group waiting outside: a human and a half-elf (both male). Otherwise (as far as you can tell), everything else seems unchanged since you left for the Kotaresh challenge.

OOC: New players, feel free to introduce yourselves! Feel free to converse in character about the current situation, and what you'd like to do next. As always, if you have questions, feel free to hit me up in the OOC tab, or by twitter:@milwaukeejoe.

  1. Arden

You see a tall, lanky human amble into the room whistling a jaunty tune.

"Dudes, name's Arden. The people outside said you needed a mage as they pushed me through the door. I told them I had a date, but they seemed to think is was important that I come right away. So what's been going on in here."

When Arden gets close you see that he is wearing the most cliched Mage outfit you have ever seen. Dark blue robes with arcane symbols sewn in silver thread. A matching tall pointy bue hat also with arcane symbols. He is holding a softly glowing pale green orb in his left hand. He doesn't seem bothered too much by his sudden change of plans.

    OOC

Arden is an Enchantment Mage which means he is good at moving the bad guys around the field hopefully into the right spot for the strikers to strike. The instructions say metagaming is encouraged so let me know the best locations for the monsters to be and I'll try to put them there.

Thanks for letting me join your game in progress. David Sowa

As the half-elf approaches, his hands instinctively clasping around the handles of his twin longswords before noticing the forms in the shadowed temple.

"Hail, it seems the Gods saw fit to spare you four at least. How fell the others?" His face was grim and ashen as he stood, clearly shaken by the passing of other brave adventurers.

The half-breed is slender and tall for his kind, his armor fashioned of tanned, oiled hides and sinew, obviously handcrafted but with much care and skill. His auburn hair is cropped short, his ears plainly showing his mixed heritage and a single huge claw on a leather thong hangs around his neck.

    Welcome to the crew, David!

  3. OOC: I assume we're still agreed on Asar-Segt?

    [Tak-tha]
"It is a shame we could not meet after completion of this infernal temple," Tak-tha says as the two new adventurers introduce themselves. "We lost one to a room that had its floor disappear, and another two were crushed by a large elephant statue. Still, we have accomplished the tasks set by Kotaresh and claimed our prize. You...might want to stay back from those three pillars over there at the moment."

Taking his own advice in mind, Tak-tha moves towards the southwest entrance, hoping to discover a secret similar to that of Kotaresh.

    Tech
Move down to the southwest stairs
    Perception +11, Nature +11, Dungeoneering +9

  4. [Tak-tha]
As the others introduce themselves and plan next actions, Tak-tha moves to the southwest to give the stairway there intense visual scrutiny.

The stairs leads upward 30 feet before emerging on a small landing and curious double door. The doors here are different than the others, could be brass, maybe copper, or some kind of mixture of the two. The doors are engraved with an image of Asar-Segt's manifestation - a six armed ghoul surrounded by a cloud of ash.

Tak-tha doesn't detect any secret doors or traps.

  5. Upon re-entry to the great Hub, Nevdor places the divine Skull of Kotaresh on the nearest pillar. "Hey, we had no warning or received no sign that there was an order to this, right?" He handles the skull carefully, placing it gently on the pillar, then steps back. If nothing happens, he goes to size up, I mean greet, the newest group members...then, its time for a short break, and upon picking himself up, goes to investigate the SW hall with Tak-tha.

    OOC:
Place Skull on pillar, spend two healing surges to put me at full hp, then investigate the 10 ft of stairs leading up to the doors for any pressure plates, trip wires, etc. Perception +5, Dungeoneering +5.

  6. [Arden]

When Arden sees the skull his eyes light up. "Wow, that looks important. Can I get a look at that?" He gets up close and looks the skull in the eye (socket). He takes his orb and moves it around the skull feeling for any arcane clues to the properties of the skull. If that goes smoothly he joins the team at the SW passage and gives it a thorough examination.

    tech:
Examine Skull Arcana +10 Examine the SW passage Arcana +10 Dungeoneering +5. Get our dagger.

  7. When Nevdor places the Divine Skull upon one of the pedestals, the skull lights from within! Arden senses EPIC tier magic coming from the skull.

Each one of you then feels Kotaresh's Boon fall upon you:
ALL DUNGEONEERS GAIN A +1 BONUS TO SAVING THROWS.

Nevdor then joins Tak-tha in exploring the stairway leading to Asar-Segt's wing. Like Tak-tha, Nevdor does not sense any traps or secrets... just a stairs leading up to a closed bronze/brass double door.

OOC: Nevdor spends two healing surges, and is now at full hp and 6 remaining surges. Note: Kotaresh's Boon lasts for the remainder of the game, and applies to any dungeoneer. You die in the next room and come back, you still get the +1.

  8. [Bhareg]
Bowing to both of the new recruits, Bhareg says "Welcome to deciding the fate of the world. Just keep up."

Before joining his party members at Asar-Segt's stairway, he briefly checks the other two stairways in case anything has changed since Kotaresh's trial.

OOC: Spending either three surges (to full), or if we have time, two with Healing Word (+1d6). Perception +10, Arcana/Religion +2, Thievery +11 - looking for changes, catches, objects.

  9. [Bhareg]
Glancing down each of the other stairways (northwest and northeast), he finds that nothing has changed since they were last in this chamber. Both lead their respective directions (west, east) before turning north.

OOC: I'll allow two healing surges w/Healing Word. That brings you to full hp, and 6 remaining surges. Vitals tab will be updated tomorrow to reflect it.

  10. Seeing no obstacles in his way, Nevdor approaches the metal door at the top of the stairs, keeping an eye out for secret compartments/ traps. If the approach is uneventful, he will beckon the others to follow.

    OOC:
Approach the door, looking for anything out of the ordinary, and to appraise the door. Does it give us a clue as to our next trial?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Nevdor reaches the door without incident. If anything, the imagery on the door suggests that whatever the trial is behind it, it will be worthy of Asar-Segt.

OOC: It gives you a clue that your next trial is going to be AWESOME.

As Kotaresh's power washes over them, he shivers at the touch of a god. He follows close behind Nevdor, his hands on the hilts of his blades and eyes sharp for any sudden surprises as they examine the door.

  13. The door is unlocked and requires a push to open.

Taking a deep breath, and with a glance to his fellow adventurers, the half-elf gingerly pushes open the door to Asar-Segt's challenge, ready to face his imminent glory or demise.
